    Tight Bass

I have the 2200. Very powerful unit. Plenty of bass. I have my unit's volume control turned down to about 50% because it is too overpowering otherwise. It also works seemlessly with my Paradigm Studios. Good stuff.

Turn receiver on and it turns off right away

Mark, Gee, I'm sorry you're so defensive on this subject. I never would have brought it up. I respect someone who knows his limitations. My only point is that in my experience, most folks have at least a shot at fixing minor problems and in a situation like this, why not take the shot...

    Paradigm Monitor 11's

I never heard the 11s but I did hear the 5s and 7s and I think they are some of the best values in speakers availalbe. They are very good at imaging and are clear and crisp... very impressive. Good luck with them.

    Yamaha 2400/all receivers

I was told that early versions of the unit did not have the "x". Later versions do. The only way to tell the difference that I found was that units with the "x" had that fact printed on the outside box. It is not noted on the unit itself, in the owners manual or anywhere else that I know of...

Turn receiver on and it turns off right away

That is certainly not always the case. Who do you think is going to end up making this repair, the designer? The issue is that this will cost the owner money... maybe a lot of it and that is just not cost justified. I'm sorry you have so little regard for your own abilities. I have been...

Turn receiver on and it turns off right away

While I agree that self-diagnosis/repair is difficult and has a low chance of success... at this point it sounds like we're ready for despiration. He'll probably end up tossing the unit since it probably won't be cost effective to repair. Also, just because he takes it to a "professional"...

Turn receiver on and it turns off right away

Try opening it up yourself. Look around for something burned or disconnected. Use a magnifying glass to inspect the circuit card(s) for damaged components. You might be able to identify the problem and then ask the repair guy how much it might cost.

    Yammie 1400??

If I understand you, you don't see any of the on-screen info from your receiver on your monitor, right? Are you sure that your monitor is getting its video feed through the receiver? My 2400 has the ability to adjust the amount of info on the screen. I forget if one of the choices is no...

DD vs dts... Hell Freezes Over

Interesting. My version is different. But that may explain things if the recording wasn't even designed for DD. DD was implemented on some versions ad hoc. Results weren't great. Thanks.

Are you sure? The online menu clearly states DD5.1.

DD vs dts... Hell Freezes Over

Thanks for the reply "unregistered". You may be right about my preferrences, but regardless of which one reproduces the sound "better", there were clear and unmistakable differences in bass content and imaging. I guess I was curious about how typical it is that there are these...

DD vs dts... Hell Freezes Over

I just got the Eagles Hell Freezes Over DVD. Several folks here had recommended it as a test for a surround system. Great DVD with great performances. I found something unexpected in my listening tests (Yammy 2400 w/ Paradigm Studios). Keep in mind that I'm using an L-cheapo DVD player for...

Paradigm Monitor 5's vs Monitor 7's

I think you'll find that the two sound very similar except that the 7's have a tad more base. Don't forget to include the cost of stands in the price of the 5. They are great sounding speakers for the money. I seriously considered the 5's but ended up with the Studios instead.

Silly question, but are you sure the outlet that it is plugged into is working?

    ad links

I think it's misleading and ineffective. It implies that the author of the post is doing the advertising or endorses it in some way. It took me a grand total of 5 minutes to realize what it was and I now ignore them completely.

    Yamaha rx-v3300

You can use an A-B switch but that would require a manual step. Also, I wouldn't connect the two receivers together even if you could guarantee that they wouldn't be on at the same time. One receiver would always be driving the other's outputs. I'm not sure what the output impedance of an...

    Strange CD Problem

Misalignment of the CD's laser head can cause this. Possibly dirt/dust in the player can cause this problem too. If you're mechanically inclined, try opening the unit and cleaning it out. Don't touch the laser lens though. Use compressed air (or Nitrogen if you can get it) to blow it out.
