KEFs have a pretty full lower midrange / upper bass.

If you're using bare wire, I'd suggest tinning the leads where it'll be inside the binding post. Otherwise it tends to end up a jumbled mess. I like Banana plugs personally

Can I connect a 2nd receiver to a pre-out?
Essentially, yeah. And since the former is variable, its peak voltages are considerably higher than a line level output would produce. Input stages aren't always built for that. And the fact that they're different things is why I'm suggesting avoiding that scenario. Not that I haven't ever...

Beginner speaker help
Well the first question I have, is whether the bookshelves need mounts or stands which aren't free. KEF speakers are always a good option, although I don't know exactly which model(s) would fall directly in your budget.

Can I connect a 2nd receiver to a pre-out?
Pre-amplifier outputs tend to run very hot in terms of voltage in order to sent a very strong and clean signal to the amplifier (so that the gains don't need to be cranked up to noisy levels), whereas typical RCA interconnects do not run very hot (so that they can be, well, preamplified at the...

RIP, a key member of the audio community, Jeff Bagby
This morning, Loudspeaker Designer Jeff Bagby, from Kokomo, Indiana (Howard County) passed away after having been hospitalized with pneumonia on March 9th. A 60-year old man from Howard County was also confirmed to have passed away to COVID-19 today after having been hospitalized. I can't...

Completely digital audio systems ?
The premise of this thread is inherently broken. Loudspeakers are analog devices. It's impossible for a speaker to be fully digital. Even "switching" amplifiers are analog devices in reality, as Bruno Putzeys explains in his excellent AES 2006 conference paper, "All amplifiers are analogue...

RBH 1010-SEN Dual 10" Ported Subwoofer mod
What do you mean by "at least one"? I mean, if you have two, then you're a cheap pair of tweeters away from all you need for a pretty interesting tower build. Those RBH woofers can probably go high enough to meet those MMD drivers that went pretty low IIRC, since they seem to be the same units...

Best $2000 A/V Receiver?
You could spend $2000 on a receiver but can you justify it?

Why do horn loaded tweeters resolve more detail than conventional domes?
If you can get past the prosound aesthetics, the Vue h-12w fits the bill.

Why do horn loaded tweeters resolve more detail than conventional domes?
I am of the opinion that compression drivers properly equalized and not breaking up, can sound phenomenal and it's more than just the horn. CDs have dynamic range that other drivers can only dream of and their low SPL distortion characteristics are predominantly 2nd and 3rd order harmonics which...

Trading Amplifier Quality for Features – A New Trend with A/V Receivers?
You are, in my opinion, spot on. I believe 60 watts output @ 8 ohm per channel is more than enough to power multiple surround speakers in most residential-sized living spaces, so the output stages of a typical rated ~100W @ 8 ohm surround receivers can handle surround duties with gusto. The...

XTZ Divine 100.49 Tower Loudspeaker Review
Not apples-to-apples, since someone else reviewed the RBH speakers. Based on my experience, RBH has a different sound from XTZ. I can't tell you which you would prefer.

A listing of the Best Bookshelf Speakers for $500/pair
Keep in mind, it took me a single google search to hit an authorized dealer that lists the Phase Tech: http://www.eastporters.com/product/v62-pair/ at exactly 500 dollars. Usually dealers get told not to list the product pricing online if it's under MSRP.
