Streaming from a computer vs. from a dedicated device

I just purchased a Yamaha A-S801 in silver for my 2-channel listening room and couldn't be more impressed. It's a great integrated amp. Here's a review that helped me make my decision: Audioholics Yamaha A-S801 Integrated Amplifier Review

Wanting better 2-channel sound in my home theater setup

FWIW, I tried listening without Emotiva in the chain and it actually sounded worse; more distortion. I made sure to try with Pure Direct mode turned on (with and without Emotiva) and there wasn't a noticeable improvement.

Wanting better 2-channel sound in my home theater setup

Agreed! I think this is the route I will go. I will still take a look at other higher end AVRs while I do my research but I'm happy that my direction is more clear. I appreciate everyone's input. Thank you all!

Wanting better 2-channel sound in my home theater setup

Would you believe I wanted to get a 2060 in the very beginning? Reason why I didn't? Too big for my media cabinet, LOL. Reality sets in. :(

Wanting better 2-channel sound in my home theater setup

Well, the reason I added the Emo was because I wasn't satisfied with sound quality. I was told that it would be a good match for the Yamaha. Ended up not making a difference.

Wanting better 2-channel sound in my home theater setup

Does the low output of the Yamaha preouts limit my search for another amp to test/demo? What spec should I be looking at/aware of?

My Ikons are Mk1. And "rock" = transparency, low distortion, nice overall sound quality. :) Thanks!

Wanting better 2-channel sound in my home theater setup

Another thing to check tonight, YPAO Volume. Thanks. I just might have to find an integrated amp with an HT bypass feature. Sadly, I don't think my Arcam A19 has that feature. Thanks, guys. I really appreciate the feedback. Really helps!

TLS Guy, thank you for this. Low output from the preouts makes sense.

Wanting better 2-channel sound in my home theater setup

Another poster mentioned I should turn on Pure Direct mode, which I believe I have been but I'll confirm tonight. I very rarely ever need to play with tone controls on my amps even when listening to my older stuff. To be clear, I'm not satisfied with SQ with/without adjustments. I should have...

Wanting better 2-channel sound in my home theater setup

Let me clarify, I believe I mentioned previously that I have another room in my house that was regulated for 2-channel listening with my turntable but it's a smaller room. But, I really missed rocking out with my floor standing speakers in the living room. Before I made the living room my...

Wanting better 2-channel sound in my home theater setup

Good point, Bookmark. I will double-check/confirm that tonight. I'm pretty sure I had "Pure Direct" turned on as I always did that with my previous Onkyo AVR.

Wanting better 2-channel sound in my home theater setup

Thanks, lovinthehd. FWIW, I love my Yamaha AVR too. It's serves its purpose well and watching movies are a joy. I only use "Straight" 2-channels when listening to vinyl and CDs. All EQ settings are off. When playing BD 4K movies, it's whatever the source is putting out; I make no changes to...

Wanting better 2-channel sound in my home theater setup

I've been sick for a week and just returning to my thread; such great responses that I'll start answering now. Thanks, TLS Guy. I've always felt it's my Yammy AVR + Emotiva Amp causing the my dislike of 2-channel listening. The reason I posted is because it's driving me crazy and I trust my...

Got my Dali's in 2009. I love my speakers; I consider them fully broken in and love their sound. Really? I should be looking at new speakers?

Wanting better 2-channel sound in my home theater setup

LOL. That's too easy. If I have to, I'll keep a separate integrated amp in the media cabinet and switch it up when needed. A bit of a pain though. I hope there's nothing wrong in my setup. It just may be the amp pairing is what's wrong here. Sometimes, it just helps to start a thread on an...
