SAE 1000E Moving Coil Phono Cart

classicaudioparts-dot-com on the bay has these NOS carts on sale for $99.95. Looking around on the internet the best price I could find for these carts was $349. These are high output carts and will work on a MM input according to guys on AK posting about this cart. I have one, but can't use it...

    Philharmonic BMR Tower Review

Wow, it wasn't even close. Love my BMR Towers! Such a natural sounding speaker. While my Song Towers come close, they cannot match the overall clarity, and the low low bass would make you think I have a subwoofer squirreled away in the room some where! Well I do, but it isn't even plugged in...

    Rotel RMB-1085 5 Channel Amp

This Rotel is an amazing amp when you consider what it weighs - 12 pounds! For that 12 pounds you get a 5 channel 100/200wpc (8/4ohms) amp that has excellent dynamics and sound quality. I can honestly say I hear no differences between this and the UPA-7 I had for 3 years - or either of the...

    Emotiva ERC-2 CD Player

I've got a very nice Emotiva ERC-2 CD player for sale. I'd keep it but it doesn't fit in the audio rack. The Oppo player works very well for CDs and the ERC-2 cannot play any DVDs. So the ERC-2 must go. I guess you might ask - why did I buy it? Well - sometimes its what I do. I did want to try...

    Receiver or Processor?

You have a bit of a wait for the XMC-1. And I wouldn't settle on it just yet. Since nobody owns one yet there is no way to know how well it'll work. The UMC-1 was flawed on arrival and it's taken 2 years of patchwork to get the thing to work decently. And the jury is still out on that too. On...

Will I benefit with more amplification with this system?

The Behringer A500 would be a great choice for an external amp since it has no fans. But as PENG pointed out - the HK AVRs tend to make more power than HK gives them credit for. I've owned several HK AVRs and 3 or 4 stereo receivers. All made excellent power. I still have one HK stereo receiver.

Change receiver or go to seperat amps?

Don't use the volume control numbers to figure out if you are getting the sound levels you want. Use your ears. -10db isn't even reference level - assuming you've ran Audyssey. 0db is reference level and often is too loud for many listeners. You have around 20db of volume left. Maybe more...

Change receiver or go to seperat amps?

For a bit more power you might try putting the AVR back in 8ohm mode to see if that helps. Monitor how hot it gets. Adding an 80/120mm computer fan to pull hot air off the top can aide in keeping the magic smoke in. Your 876 is still one of the more powerful AVRs made. Very few of the newer...

    4 ohms rated a/v receiver

Not all 4 ohm rated speakers are created equal. No mention by the OP of which speakers he owns. I've driven 4 ohm Emotiva speakers with a lowly Onkyo SR-506 when my Onkyo SC-885 needed to be swapped out. For the 2+ weeks I used it to drive my 5.1 setup it didn't get hot and never shut down...

Will this be a good idea? and how will I hook this all up.

+1 And the 2112 might have been enough - but there is no stopping a guy when he gets the idea of external amps in his head eh? I've got a few of them.

    Receiver advice -- Pioneer 1021 -- Should I replace?

I would recommend the Denon over the Pioneer - mainly for the Audyssey MultEQ XT but also for the additional power it has. Audyssey XT provides very good room correction capabilities.

    Receiver advice -- Pioneer 1021 -- Should I replace?

Taking your questions by the numbers: 1. There are very few AVRs that can play digital content to zone II. And those are way above the price of your current AVR. 2. The reason for the delay may be because you aren't using direct mode in zone I. Try using direct mode and see if that helps...

Agree - I wonder how that'll pass the WAF smell test? That is the best of all possible solutions. Correction software is for us lazy slobs.

Need Advice on System for Music Only

Take a look at the 12" Emotiva Ultra sub. Great bargain and it is a sealed design which is great for music. I have a 12" sealed DIY sub in my bedroom which is about the same size as yours. I don't have equalization or bass management other than what is on the sub's amp - but I've played around...

Need Advice on System for Music Only

This simply is not true. Reflections and absorption rates of sound with with it's peaks and valleys don't change simply because you've turned off the multi-channel AVR and turned on the 2 channel unit. That is unless you have an anechoic chamber for your listening space.

$500 budget for a decent receiver

That Pioneer is a pretty good unit. They have some trouble making their stated power - and more than most but power isn't everything.

Fanny Wang Monster Lawsuit Ends with a Whimper

Monster must have a huge lawyer staff. Lawsuits aren't cheap so I suppose they need to keep em busy. When are we going to pass a law in this country to help prevent frivolous lawsuits? Put the burden of proof on the one suing. Must be because we have lawyers running this country - congress -...
