    Mass Effect 3

The "problem" with the ending is that it allows players to quickly and easily see behind the curtain. One can easily reload the game, finish the final portion, and see the other endings without much trouble. What people don't seem to put together is that, by and large, NONE of your choices...

    Mass Effect 3

I think it's all about the wording. I don't anticipate the ending being changed - I anticipate DLC that explains some of the holes that open up right at the end as well as DLC that "provides closure" with other characters.

    Mass Effect 3

Played through it and finished on Monday. I've heard all the arguments against the ending and none of them hold much weight to me. Some minor plot holes, to be sure, but I don't buy the "doesn't hold with the themes of the games" argument - which is being thrown around as the biggest...

Gears of War 3 Anticipation and Discussion

I kind of gave up on GOW's online anything after Gears 2's online fiasco. The Horde mode looks vastly improved and four-player campaign is a definite plus, though. That said, I don't think I'll be picking it up until it's $20 or so.

I'm not a big fan of trumpet, but.....

I think you'd have been fine; not only is equal-temperment tuning fundamentally "out of tune" (it's just equally out of tune in every key), but keyboard music (most affected by equal-temperment tuning) would have been written in keys that weren't offensive. Our concept of "in tune" is always...

Narrowed it down.. SVS, eD, Rythmik

I know you've got it "narrowed down"... but the VTF-3 MK3 (which I have) is in the same price range and (from what I've heard) very comperable to that eD and SVS. The "feet" on it are also designed to de-couple from the floor... but I doubt the feet on either it or the eD will really be...

    Need sub suggestions... photos included

Buy the PC or PB12-NSD. You can always turn the volume down if necessary. You can get always get a capable sub to do less; you can't get an incapable one to do more. I'd recommend the VTF-3, but since it's going in your front right corner, you can hide the SVS a little better since you...

    HSU VTF-15H Subwoofer Review

Not the "giant killer" I was expecting. In fact, if Ilkka's numbers are to be believed, you don't get a whole lot more performance than the VTF-3 MK3 (when compensated for distance and peak vs RMS measurements) at the bottom end.

Clearly this is something you feel very passionately about; I don't wish to further derail this thread with discussion of theoretical absolutes. We concur on at least one thing - should the OP find the Ascend center to be unsatisfactory, he should return it and audition another (perhaps one...

I apologize if I've been misunderstood. My issue was with the verbage of the "good enough" vs "great" argument. The simple fact of the matter is that we have all settled for "good enough" in our gear (unless it's impossible for someone on these forums to own a higher-quality component in...

Paradigm unleashes a little monster of a sub.

Even if he sits on top of it he's not going to hear 18hz at 80dB.

David Fabrikant himself discussed why he chose the MTM design, and specifically why he did NOT choose a M-TM-M design for the CMT-340 on the Ascend forums. Not sure if it's kosher to post a link to another forum. As you can imagine, his response is that he chose the compromises involved in...

Agreed; that's my recommendation as well (still).

This is getting ridiculous. If we want "great" (meaning uncompromised) we're no longer looking at systems in this price-point. Everything is only "good enough" until you have the top product conceived of and produced by man. The poster is looking at 5.0 systems around $1500, not outfitting...

So, your advice is for the poster to stay away from Ascend, Axiom, EMP, Energy, Klipsch, Polk, RBH, and Salk, just to name a few? From a quick glance through their offerings, they don't have any other options for centers. ... certainly not anywhere near this pricepoint. Even the cheapest Revel...

Speaker shopping-A new approach Part 2

Just thinking out loud, here. Shopping for speakers has always seemed like a "fool's errand" to me, given what must be surmounted: speaker set up and unique acoustics for each demo room, change in mood and/or focus of the listener, relatively short auditory memory in humans, speakers designed...

Just took a look at the Ascend page, You could do Sierra-1s across the front L/C/R and use HTM-200SEs as surrounds (which I did formerly, and, frankly, sound almost identical to the CBM-170SEs I replaced them with) for $1600. I'd probably still save the money and go with the 340s instead...

Hey, man. I've got the exact Ascend set-up you're looking at, and I think they're the deal. The Sierras mentioned are (from what everyone says) a step up, but I can tell you the only thing I DON'T like about my Ascends is that they are brutally unforgiving of poor recording. I don't do a...

    Emotiva Ultra 12 Subwoofer Review

I've always found it interesting that there's a pretty large discrepancy between the AH numbers and Ilkka's on the VTF-3 MK3 at 20hz (Maximum Output). It's not a small discrepancy, either - it's around 5dB! Both tests were at two meters. I wonder what caused such substantial differences?

    SopRage's "Man-Room"

True, but I was looking at a 20 - 30 foot run, either under carpet or (worse) through wall and ceiling; the surrounds are already wired through the wall, so the rack and equipment more or less has to be where it is. I looked at wireless HDMI, but since I play games 90% of the time I couldn't...
