Do you listen to AM radio anymore?
I haven't listened to AM radio in decades...my version of hell contains talk radio and don't care enough about sports to listen to someone describe a game.

Winamp being discontinued. Booo!
I agree 100%. I just want to play music and have yet to see a player that will create specific folders for me, such as: "deck songs", "songs my band plays", "workout songs", "songs for crowd A", "songs for crowd B", etc...

Whatever happened to Hi-Fi?
I disagree with the author's almost complete dismissal of stereo for "virtual presence". One does NOT need 4 channel or surround audio to enjoy music. I've played in several bands over the years and have seen hundreds of bands perform live. In every single case, 100% of the audio when at a live...

Break In Time on Klipsch RF-82 II
Have you ever noticed that every single person who believes that speakers change sounds after break in, all believe that the sound improves?? If a physical change really does happen, it's highly unlikely that the result is that every single speaker sounds better after the change and not a single...

Do all amplifiers sound the same thread
Most people with a limited budget would be better off buying a low/mid end receiver and putting as much towards speakers as they can afford...unlike my friend who spent $1000 on a receiver and $400 for bookshelf speakers  when a $400 receiver and $1000 speakers would have been the...

Installation Help - Hiding Wires...
Is that vinyl siding on the house?? Vinyl siding expands and contracts with changes in temperatures, making it difficult to properly seal any openings against weather. Based on my limited construction experience, making a hole in an exterior wall should be avoided whenever possible. I would...

Installation Help - Hiding Wires...
I would just cut through the drywall, run the wires, and patch it later...but then again, I drywalled an entire house and could repair that in no time. :D

Extended warrantys - do you need them?
Visions Electronics in Canada (well, here in Winnipeg anyway) offers an extended warranty on most products...the difference being that if you don't use it, at the end of the extended warranty period you get a store credit for the full value of that warranty. If you expect to buy products from...

Canada battles loud TV advertisements.
I have a PVR and watch nothing live and almost never watch commercials. The odd time when I don't hit FF quickly enough, the volume of some commercials is definately is noticeable. And yes...I've dozed off and been woken by the Oxyclean man

CNN Article: Studio's starting to play hardball wth NetFlix
Myself and a lot of my friends don't buy or stream movies at all. Most of us have a PVR and a high def TV, and subscribe to a cable package that includes a movie channel. I simply record movies and watch them at my leisure. Some people may enjoy building a movie collection or just HAVE to...

Apple to offer higher quality music on itunes?
Instead of asking why they aren't offering an option better than low quality, maybe the question should be "how come high quality isn't the default?" Bandwidth is cheaper than creating a physical copy, but most downloads are of poorer quality...

When will standard DVD go extinct?
That may be true, but, as an audioholic, you only make up a very small percentage of the market. You are vastly outnumbered by people with 42" - 50" flat screens and a collection of DVDs that they still listen to through the TV speakers. For most of them, the resolution on a DVD is just fine.

When will standard DVD go extinct?
Don't forget the impact that DVR's have had. For most average consumers, the increased picture quality is not important enough to replace their collection of regular movies with Blu-Ray. Add the fact that now people have HDTV and DVR's and can now record movies and save them in the hard...

Help me pick a receiver
I do want HT, but don't want to pay for a bunch of features that I'll never use. I also don't want to go too cheap as I already have a cheap HT receiver. I didn't realize the Yamaha I linked to came with speakers...that one is no longer an option.

Help me pick a receiver
I'm trying to decide between two receivers. I mostly listen to music (80%) and watch some TV (20%). My current receiver is an 5+ year old RCA RX-778VBK which will be moving down to the basement. I don't use or need most of the options that come with the new receivers...I've never used any of...

Tv worthy of a Theater room? (Upgrading)
I have a Samsung 67" DLP and it has an LED lamp (60,000 hour life) instead of a bulb. For the price nothing can touch DLP's in value per quare inch. The picture is great unless you go too far off centre, however, if most of your viewing will be in front you can't go wrong.

Highest useful bit depth and sample rate for audio files
It will vary from person to person and listening environment to listening environment and their are too many variables to come up with a answer that is right for everyone. If you are listening to classic rock mp3's on an mp3 player with cheap ear bud headphones, any upgrade above 192 will...

Storing Electronics in Cold Weather
It routinely gets to -40 where I live and I don't know of anyone who has ever had a problem with speakers in their cars. And that includes people who park in heated parkades and go from +20C to -40C in the blink of an eye with the stereo cranked. My neighbor's kid starts his car that has...
