Help me build a sound isolation box for my computer?

Is the "whirring" thats bothering you just fan noise? Can you narrow it down to either the case fan or cpu fan? You might be able to get the noise down to acceptable levels by just adding a fan controller and dialing them down when you are recording. If its the cpu fan you could swap out the...

    Avatar/Netflix/New Releases

I've had a couple Netflix movies I've been meaning to mail back for the last week. I put Avatar in my queue probably a month ago, so I signed on to bump it up to the top and noticed this: What gives? Is this going to be a trend with new releases? Why would they purposely delay them?

    Happy LOTR on BD day!

IMO it was well worth it. I picked it up from Best Buy on release day. I think they had for $55.99, but my gf had said she would buy it for me, we just threw it on the BB card, didn't really pay attention to the price :D

What movies do you like that critics/everyone else hated?

I agree, forgot about that one. And the bass, oh the BASS!

    Happy LOTR on BD day!

I picked up the trilogy from BB today, had a few hours and threw in Fellowship. I agree with the blu-ray.com review, overall I'd say the image was inconsistent. Some scenes looked quite good and really "popped", while others had an unnatural "softness" to them. I don't know what obvious DNR...

What movies do you like that critics/everyone else hated?

Are there movies you like that reviewers or all your friends say are bad? List them here, I'll start. Battlefied Earth: Yes, I liked this one, it was fun/entertaining. Waterworld: Made ~250 million at the box office but was also the most expensive ever made at the time. I think people...

    Review of LOTR on BD

I never bought these on DVD either, been holding out for the blu-ray version. I'll be picking it up tuesday from best buy, saw it for $60 in the sunday paper. From the blu-ray.com review:

    Battlefield Earth writer "sorry" LOL

I never understood why there is such universal hatred for this movie. I'm the only person I know of that didn't think it was all that bad. There's plenty of worse movies out there, the whole "scary movie" franchise is easily worse than Battlefield Earth.

    Alice In Wonderland

I just got back from watching it, I actually really enjoyed it. Although I never grow tired of Depp/Burton. I can see why the rehashed Jack Sparrow would bother you, but the creepy Tim Burton style never loses its luster, IMO. I can see why it reminded you of the Lion, Witch and the Wardrobe...

    Cloverfield.

Incredible Hulk with Edward Norton if you haven't seen it yet. Max Payne was good for LFE as well, stick around until after the credits.

    New receiver, no picture...

Its an Nvidia 9600gt, I'm also running Windows 7 Pro on that pc. I was planning on eventually getting an ATI 5000 series card for it. I have a 5770 in my gaming rig I could swap in to see if that fixes the problem.

    New receiver, no picture...

The receiver I had driving my pc speakers went out, so I moved my Sony receiver into the office and picked up a new receiver for the living room. I decided on the Insignia NS-R5101HD since it decodes the HD formats and was $100 off. My htpc is hooked up to the receiver with a DVI to HDMI cable...

    Fixable?

I figured as much, was hoping it wasn't toast since I'm in a much bigger house now and just one sub isn't cutting it...the living room is pretty big and open to the kitchen, I've got 10,000 cubic feet to fill with bass.

    Fixable?

I haven't been around here in a while, 17 credits of engineering classes are keeping me pretty busy...I hope some of the helpful people are still around. I made the mistake of hooking up an ART Cleanbox while my amp was on and turned up about 75%. My sub made a loud pop and extended about 2...

    Moneual HTPC?

I have a 9600 in my htpc, I really can't see anything lower offering good gaming performance. But that's just MHO.

    Moneual HTPC?

A $400 premium for those options seems like a bit much, IMO, unless it's a BD burner. You can pick up a BD drive for under $100 and PowerDVD for another $50. A nice Happauge tuner card will set you back another $100.

    Moneual HTPC?

For that price, and since they are marketing it as an HTPC I would expect a blu-ray drive. The e8400 is a great cpu, but I don't see why an HTPC would need 8gb of ram. I would rather see 4gb and a blu-ray drive, which I don't think would change the price at all. The Nvidia 9300 is fine for HD...

    Show off your htpc!!

I don't have any good shots of my htpc up right now, it's nothing special: AMD 2.9ghz Athlon x2 2gb Corsair DDR2 1066 ram Nvidia 9600gt LG blu-ray drive SB Audigy 4 sound card 74gb WD Velociraptor HD I like showing off my gaming rig though :) ASUS M4A78T-E mobo Phenom II X3 720...

The Watchmen, which reminds me, that was like a week ago and I haven't sent it back to netflix yet.
