    Bryston Model T Floorstanding Speakers

Welcome to audioholics. I don't recall many other threads in which the poster was required to prove ownership via pictures. There was some ugliness between Axiom and Audioholics and you are seeing the fallout here. Hope you enjoy your Brystons. Don't expect any love here...

    Here we go again....

Things still don't add up. Gene's statements and Ian's do not reconcile. That said, I have absolutely no idea what's up. Guess I'm still sticking to bizzare... I have to say I am more than a little dissapointed that mods here would jump on the bashing band wagon at all. GTPdude. I'm...

You also just received an appology. In private. As the first message was. I had not read the link. For the record, here is the original PM. I did make the same request of Axiom before reading Ian's post. Clearly this is well beyond reporting posts. This is just too bizzare. I'm...

Axiom Audio LFR1100 Tower Loudspeaker Preview

I run dual centers. Before I did this I spent a lot of time searching and reading about center channel design and comb filtering. What I found at the time was that comb filtering in the horizontal direction was a very bad thing. It is an inherent compromise of the design where a small...

Axiom Audio LFR1100 Tower Loudspeaker Preview

I'm with you on this point. Listener Distance - 2.5 meters Desired DBSPL - 85 Speaker Efficiency - 92 (my M80s) Amp headroom - 0 Required power - 1 watt Add 10db of headroom and 5 db for room gain and you will now require a whopping 5 watts for those 95db peaks. The...

Axiom Audio LFR1100 Tower Loudspeaker Preview

My final thoughts on all this: 1. Good speakers are about good engineering and good engineering is hard to come by. If great speakers were about throwing a couple of more dollars at components, everybody would be building $300 speakers that measure +- 1db through their range and sounded...

Axiom Audio LFR1100 Tower Loudspeaker Preview

Hmmm... really? The $1,100 M80 compared to the $10 K Revel Studio? To me that's like being pissed that your Chevy Malibu doesn't go around the track like than nice shiny Ferrari. Compared to other speakers in its price class at the time, the M80 measured very well. I can't say if they...

Axiom Audio LFR1100 Tower Loudspeaker Preview

Its nice to see that there is still some rational thinking going on around here. Engineering is always about design trade offs. Making the right selections makes the difference between profitable companies and has beens. The M80s measure very well. Oh, nice un-smoothed graphs you got...

The Insanity of Marketing Disguised as Science in Loudspeakers

Gene. I think that is a worth while addendum. I'm afraid I too came away with the impression you really didn't like DBTs. I had the pleasure of participating in a properly set up DBT between a modestly priced and very expensive speaker. I found it quite difficult to express my views on the...

Is It Time to Drop Cable TV for Netflix, Hulu Plus and Antenna?

There is one piece missing from the online side of the equation. How much bandwidth does streaming use? I got rid of cable 5 years ago for a few reasons. At the time there was no alternative so I stuck with a fairly low bandwidth internet connection. In order for me to get programming...

Receiver + ohms + speakers = confused. Will my setup work?

Don't worry about it. First, the worry about lower impedance power draws is overblown. Second, Denon always puts a very robust amp section into their receivers. My speakers are solidly 4 ohm over a large part of their range and my Denon 2808 never gets anything more than warm.

Need help with choosing "good" speaker options

If its Studio 40s they are not V5 as this model has been discontinued. If you like the sound of the Studio line, listen to speakers from manufacturers with the same design philosophy. The ones mentioned here that I know fit that are Axiom, PSB, Aperion and Salk.

help with purchase of new fronts

The receiver puts out 110 w into 8 ohms and the speakers are 90db @ 1 watt @ 1 meter. Those speakers should get stupid loud without the receiver shutting down. What exactly is happening that your receiver is cutting out? How far are you from the speakers? How big is the room. How loud is...

GET... Hmmm... The first thing that brings to mind is Get Smart. I see they have a center channel with PRs. Thats kind of interesting.

LF advice on Home theater speakers

I don't know anything about either of the speakers you posted. A diy sub will give good value if you can build one. In that space, you might end up needing more than one sub.

Thats a fair sized room. How close are you going to be to the speakers when listening?
