The popular Outlaw M2200 mono block power amp

That may have been poorly worded on my part. I'm referring to kvn's reference of Schiit releasing a discrete circuit based unit and a opamp based version of the magni at the same time and encouraging people to try both. The idea is that Schiit did this in response to Amir.

The popular Outlaw M2200 mono block power amp

My point was that I've never seen someone go after a brand like Amir.(Many models over a few years) I'm not sure how Schiit changing up their marketing a bit disproves my comment. It actually kind of supports it. Either way, it seems to me that sales of small dacs and headphone amps has been...

Best AVR deals in Canada ever - AVR-X3600H, SR7013 (not currently, but has been < US$1,000 equivalent a few times)

That's a sweet price for Canadians, and the 3600 has a full set of pre outs which would be perfect for an amp.

The popular Outlaw M2200 mono block power amp

Amir is either a man with an agenda or he's on someone's payroll. Never have I seen anyone go after a brand like he does with Schiit Audio. For that reason, I don't believe he can be trusted. He has also demonstrated an ineptitude with testing methodology. YMMV. On amps and speakers, I'm...

Welp, I think the HDMI board in my Onkyo is dying...again

I had an Onkyo 876 that never gave me a problem and I kept a fan on it sucking heat out. Some may not know but there was an Onkyo issue with surface mount caps on the HDMI boards in question, I believe they were of a lower heat spec than they should have been. I also took an Onkyo 906 off the...

My Faith In AH Has Been Restored (I was really starting to wonder)

The very reason I rarely visit this forum anymore is specifically because of the vitriol of the amps-sound-the-same camp. And look at those of you here now, licking your chops for another debate. And that's probably a big reason why this forum is a shell of its former self. But debate on...

    Amp choices

There could be a potential issue. You haven't mentioned the specific model of speaker you've installed around the house. I'm not sure if they are included in your sig line or not, and it's best not to assume things. If the speakers in question are 4 ohms, then running all of them at higher...

    New stereo integrated amplifier.

    What a soap opera.

    New stereo integrated amplifier.

I was not specifically referring to the amp as the culprit. Reread my previous posts, and note that I was talking about an integrated amp, the HK PM625. These are units that have a preamp and amp in one chassis. Again though, there are no specs that measure imaging capability. The problem...

    New stereo integrated amplifier.

Why are you making that assumption? I repeat, there is no spec for the quality of stereo imaging.

    New stereo integrated amplifier.

    1) There is no spec by which one can measure stereo imaging. 2) The A21 will play what it's fed. Were you using the 3805 as preamp? I'm hoping not. 3) I've had the 3801, 3803 and currently own the 4520. I haven't done pure 2 channel much in the 4520 because it sounds so anemic. YMMV...

    Tannoy

They have very little presence in North America which is too bad for us, hence the limited reviews. I currently have 3 pairs of them and love the single point source for imaging and timing(concentric design). There is simply no substitute for any of that.

    New stereo integrated amplifier.

I'll be the contrarian one. I have an old integrated amp from the early 1980's, a Harman Kardon PM625. It puts out 20 wpc. I compared it to a Denon AVR 3801(from about 2001) in pure stereo mode. For sound reproduction at moderate to medium levels, they both had good frequency response. For...

A new way to bi-wire your speakers

Ah yes, I'd forgotten about this site. First thread I go to and am reminded by the arrogant snobbery why I don't visit here any more. Keep up the good work fellas, I'm sure this forum will grow into another avs forum. Not.

Emotiva XPR-5 Five-Channel Reference Power Amplifier Preview

And another line from Emotiva sails into the sunset. I've never seen so many products from a single company introduced and then retired.

Amir of What's Best Forum debunks Audioquest and Uptone Audio

Ah yes, the old, "they're all the same" argument. Whether they could have heard any difference or not, it wouldn't have proved, or disproved a thing. Believe whatever makes you happy.

Amir of What's Best Forum debunks Audioquest and Uptone Audio

Wow, AVS lets a lot of crap go on. To get banned, you really have to be way out there. Not something a guy with an audio business should be doing.

Marantz and Denon no longer use Toroidal power in their high end AVRs?

I would expect that the size of the transformers in your Bryston and Parasound are larger than what's in your Denon. At least mine are! My A21 used to have a little hum, and I thought nothing of it. Several months ago I upgraded the lighting ballasts in the room to electronic ballasts. The...

Emotiva XMC-1 Processor with Dirac Room EQ Review

Interesting review. I'd take issue with describing this processor as "moderately priced". Their UMC-1 and UMC-200 were moderately priced, but 2500 is something else entirely, especially for what you get. A new release that doesn't have 4K or HDMI 2.2, among other things, is a mistake in my...

Onkyo long term reliability problems - need recommendations

I've owned three Onkyos, including the 876 and 906. All of the models you've listed can have the dreaded HDMI failure, though the 3007 may do better but it's out of your budget. Recently I made the switch back to Denon, and now own 2 of them, a 4520, and an old 3801 for the office that I...
