    Behringer? Emotiva? What's the Diff??

Your BR player has fixed-level outputs. If you hook an amp directly to it, you will blow out your speakers. You need volume control.

    Behringer? Emotiva? What's the Diff??

I haven't heard one, so I'll let someone else answer this. Sound quality is usually better on more expensive amplifiers, but a pretty appearance, dealer markup, and name recognition play a large part as well. You can directly compare warranty, customer support, price, appearance, and some...

    Turntable question

Did you try simply adjusting the tone controls on your receiver? Maybe there's nothing wrong.

    Bi Wiring and Amplification

There's more to an amplifier than the power output. A 50 watt per channel stand-alone amplifier can sound better than a 100 watt per channel receiver. An external amp is worth the time and money if it improves the sound quality enough for you to justify the cost. [if someone argues that...

Really getting HD from HD satellite?

Yes, BluRay is compressed, in MPEG or VC-1 compression codecs.

    Bi Wiring and Amplification

Don't worry about biamping. Basics first. Get the cheaper receiver, and a better amp. This puts more of your money where it counts for music: in the 2 main speakers. Don't worry about wearing out the receiver - it will be fine.

Really getting HD from HD satellite?

All HD video is compressed to fit into a Disc, satellite feed, cable feed, etc. Some are compressed more than others, with Satellite compressing more than a disc. Think of it like a 256kb/s vs 128kb/s MP3.

    FS: Hafler 2-channel amplifier

Th manual isn't explicit, but it does state that it's 400w into an 8 ohm load in bridged mode, which should translate into ~200w per channel for 4 ohm speakers.

    FS: Phase Linear 700B amplifier

Rebuilt a couple of years ago, with larger capacitors, and new output devices. 345w per channel into 8 ohms. Designed by Bob Carver. Nearly 50 lbs. I've had a lot of amplifiers, and this is one of my favourites. Asking $700 or best offer. New output devices: New power...

    FS: Hafler 2-channel amplifier

This Hafler DH-220 is a two channel Mosfet amplifier, which puts out 115w at 8 ohms, and is stable all the way down into a short circuit (0 ohms). It's a beautiful sounding amp, with a simple direct-coupled design. This is a popular amplifier for modification, and I have all the schematics. It...

Enter to Win: Audioengine 2 Speakers from Ram Electronics

I would place these on my desk in my office, and listen to music on them instead of headphones while I work.

    Denon Receiver

It's time for me to sell my Denon AVR-3300 receiver. I've used it for many years, mainly because it has an analog bass-management feature. This lets me use a subwoofer with my main speakers when listening to good quality 2-channel analog sources. Most modern receivers do this digitally, which...

    SACD vs DTS-HD Master Audio

DVD-Audio stores data in PCM format, up to high bitrates. DTS-MA and Dolby TrueHD also store PCM data, at high bitrates. There are some minor differences in the way that PCM is stored, and the latter two have more bandwidth for more channels and higher total combined bitrates, but those are...

    How could this be?

Norm says his cables sound different. I believe him. He even says that he measured it with a SPL meter and compared the A vs C weightings, and it showed that the sound changed. Why all the harsh comments?

    SACD vs DTS-HD Master Audio

You're comparing DSD, which is used in SACD, to 24bit/192khz PCM, which is used in DVD-Audio, DTS Master Audio, Dolby TrueHD, and probably other places. Both are high-resolution, and more than accurate enough for any digital audio capturing. I believe most audio today is mastered in PCM...

    Emotiva UPA-2 Stereo Amplifier

The MPS-2 was just recently discontinued. Someday soon you'll see it moved to the archives.

    Emotiva UPA-2 Stereo Amplifier

Corrections: The UPA-2 is a traditional class AB design (like all current Emotiva amplifiers except the MPS-2 which uses a multi-rail class "H" design scheme). Actually, the MPS-2 has been discontinued. There are no balanced inputs, so you'll want to look at a higher-level amplifier...

What features would you give up for a more audio centric A/V receiver?

I checked them all - I don't need very much in a receiver. But I wonder what the cost is of those things. A better amplifier section has definite costs associated with it, but what are the savings of cutting out s-video connections, or DSP modes? I can see some savings for skipping THX...
