Floorstanding speakers on a budget?
Since the poster is basing the majority of his decision on "liking how big speakers look", I don't think he cares too much that other options would sound as good/better for less or the same amount of money.

Home theater guys, floor standing speakers (help)
If you are going to be using a subwoofer, then you won't really be getting any advantage with floorstanders, so you shouldn't discount bookshelves completely. If you are NOT using a subwoofer, and this setup is going to be for movies, then... You should be!

Rotel...why so retarded?
Toslink and Coaxial Digital connections are bells and whistles? Heh. Keep in mind I haven't researched anything, but if their latest stuff really doesn't have either of those options, that's kind of difficult to explain. "Purist" or not. It's a freaking A/V Receiver not an integrated stereo amp.

Analog to HDMI Conversion Receiver--Help Needed!!
I'm just wondering... Why exactly do you need that feature? If you have an analog source hooked up to the receiver and video is being passed through to the tv, well, the receiver is ON, so why don't you use the speakers connected to the receiver?

How can I tell if I'm getting HDMI 1.0, 1,1, 1.2, 1.3?
depends what version your monitor accepts. does it matter though? unless your set is hdmi 1.3 with "deep color" support or whatever it's not really going to affect you. edit: doh, i need to get better at reading. since the monitor doesn't really do any sort of hdmi standard I dont think it...

'Tower' speaker on stands?
I've done it before, but that was a long time ago and I wasn't as into the hobby as I am now. There are definitely a lot of people using towers with Sound Anchor stands, or you can just grab a few pairs of different sized floor spikes and angle them up until you get the best high end from your seat.

orb audio vs klipch
Apples to oranges. Do you NEED speakers as small as the orbs? Obviously they aren't going to put out as much bass as bookshelf speakers. That's not even a question. Subwoofer quality I'm not sure about. The Orb sub is supposed to be phenomenal with the orb speakers, never heard what comes with...

Studio Monitors
They're used for completely different purposes. It all comes down to what you like and what works. Lots of studio monitors are self powered AND nearfield, so you would need a preamp (as opposed to a reciever, unless it has pre-outs) and if you sit more then say 4 feet away the soundfield will be...

Stereo setup..which would be better for me..
Maybe you should look for something in between. I find Klipschs excessively bright for anything not rock/metal (and most of the time even for those genres), but the X-LSs might be too laid back. Ascend, perhaps?

Sub for a small small room
I've got an SB12+ in a room only slightly larger (13x12-ish) and it sounds awesome. I say go for it.

Are YOU an Audioholic? Take the Test!
93, but i didn't the do additional stuff... i probably could have scored higher, but i didn't count speaker stands, and my HTPC is not in current use, and i have other sets of stereo speakers but theyre not hooked up to a seperate system.

How to connect Polk Audio PSW10 subwoofer?
Make sure Sub is set to ON on your reciever, set the crossover to say, 80hz as a starting point. Plug a subwoofer cable (RCA to RCA) from SUB OUT or LFE OUT on your reciever to Input L (or R) on your sub. Turn the sub ON, crossover ALL THE WAY UP, and put the gain up about halfway. You're...

Wow
I put in my order for a full set of X speakers a couple days ago. A pair of the big *** MTMs, a CS center, and LS surrounds, in maple though. Here's a pic of the maple someone else from AVS posted at some point, hope they don't mind.

PC upconverting to DTS. Which is better?
The better one is whichever you think sounds betters, but I'll be honest, I've never heard of "upconverting to DTS" on the fly before.
