Andrew Jones and Chris Walker now with ELAC

True. But note that I was referring to the average (mean), not the median. Such a large disparity between the mean and the median does indicate a problem... but one that is too political to be discussed in this thread. Do the SP-BS22-LRs cost $125/6 USD each somewhere? I agree that they're...

    music listening options...

Wish I could help, but I have "only" one sub with my RX-A2040 (albeit a beefy one). I'm surprised that both wouldn't be working. How are you listening -- Stereo, Straight, or Pure Direct?

Andrew Jones and Chris Walker now with ELAC

That's not snobbery. It's acknowledgement of reality. A $125 pair of speakers is a mere ~5 wage hours at the current average US hourly wage. It's quite an accomplishment that it manages to be satisfactory to many for so little $. But of course a $400 pair of speakers will (usually) be much...

Add-On HDMI Transcoders (and) Affordable Pre/Pros w/ HDMI

The LMC-1 does not have integrated HDMI support. The HDMI connectivity comes from an external 2-in, 1-out HDMI switchbox that connects to the LMC-1 via a small RS232 cable. The switchbox selects one of the two inputs when the DVD or CABLE inputs are selected on the LMC-1 (this is...

    is sherwood still worthless?

There's nothing wrong with Sherwood's mass market line of receivers. They market to the budget segment, and I'd buy one of them before I'd buy a similarly priced Sony, Kenwood, etc. And their Newcastle line is great -- at least as good as Pioneer Elite, Sony ES, etc.

    DTS-HD MA bugs me

I'm not "bugged" by the inability of the players to decode DTS-HD/MA -- although such support would be nice. I *am* bugged by the fact that certain studios continue to release discs with DTS-HD/MA tracks, in spite of the fact that no one can listen to them.

    Sherwood Newcastle HDMI 1.3 receivers

Actually, Jeff Hipps from Sherwood has stated that the R-972 will now be released with the Reon processor: http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?p=11641549#post11641549 I was strongly considering purchasing one of these, but 'caved' a week ago and bought a Pioneer Elite 92TXH instead...

    Sherwood Newcastle HDMI 1.3 receivers

I believe the 972 will also have the (nicer) Reon video processor.

    Z-wave devices

Not exactly. I didn't fully describe the Squeezebox behavior in my prior post since it's off topic, but I'll add a bit more here since there appear to be some interest. What actually happens is that pressing a button (any button) on the Lutron remote results in the Squeezebox repeating the...

    Worst Movie Ever Made?

I nominate Ultraviolet. This has so far been the only movie I've watched, and then had to fight the urge to destroy the DVD to guarantee that I could not re-watch it... Seriously... if you're ever tempted to buy this DVD (or BD)... don't.

    Z-wave devices

I have one of these too. The only negative is that the Lutron remote's IR commands often force my Slim Devices Squeezebox to unexpectedly turn on/off/etc. None of my other remotes do this. It's possible that this is an issue with the Squeezebox or its Slimserver software, but it's still an...

    Z-wave devices

I'm not entirely sure how it works -- I've never used this particular remote -- but I believe it's safe to assume that Logitech has provided for some means of programming the remote to operate the Z-Wave devices. It'd be pointless to offer Z-Wave support if there was no way to program the...

    Z-wave devices

One of the Logitech Harmony models -- think it's the 890 -- does include an RF transmitter with limited support for Z-Wave. IIRC it can act only as a "slave" controller; you'll still need to have a master Z-Wave controller (such as the one in that kit) to program the devices, set timers, etc.

    Cheap Efficient Speakers

You'll get the best sensitivity from a pair of MTMs -- e.g. center channel speakers, or similar design. The double woofers gives them better sensitivity than single-woofer designs (usually by about 3db). Also consider a used pair of Klipsch bookshelves (KG-2.5, etc).

    Z-wave devices

I bought a Z-Wave kit (controller + 2 plug-in light modules) earlier this year from www.outpost.com... but it seems that they no longer sell it. Looks like SmartHome still carries them: http://www.smarthome.com/1189.html.

    Worst-sounding recordings?

A few that I've experienced recently: Red Hot Chili Peppers - Stadium Arcadium John Mayer - Heavier Things Lily Allen - Alright, Still Arctic Monkeys - Whatever People Say I Am, That's What I'm Not Most metal discs (Within Temptation, Leaves Eyes, etc)

Are DIGITAL COAX Cables specific? newb..sorry

If you do elect to use 'any old RCA cable', then watch for dropouts or other interruptions of sound. If you encounter anything like this, then get a standard composite video cable or 'digital' cable to replace the 'old' cable.

TV Damage caused by Weight of Center Chnl?

I've had a Rocket RSC200 (46lbs) sitting on top of my Hitachi 57S700 RPTV for a couple years and it hasn't been a problem. This TV is a large CRT-based RPTV with a sizeable top 'shelf' to hold the speaker. I wouldn't put the RSC200 on top of a thinner LCD/DLP/LCOS-based RPTV. There are some...

Enter to Win: $200 off order from Emotiva!

    1. What size subwoofer is most appealing to you? 8”, 10”, 12” or ?? 12-inch. The smaller drivers are too small for mid-to-large rooms without using multiple subs or a sub with multiple small drivers. 2. Do you prefer single our dual driver design, either active of with passive radiators...
