Paradigm’s Founder Series Loudspeakers Mix Signature Design, Cutting-Edge Science

I'm not sure there's ever been an audio company that's had such huge paradigm shifts in design philosophy from one generation to another. From NRC inspired designs that remind you of Revel (Signature Series), to unexplainable shifts to being a Bowers & Wilkens me-too brand (Persona) and now...

Salk Ascend better the Big ones

Damn I thought I was going to have to come in and defend the Genelec's "The Ones" against some new Salk or Ascend speaker. Disappointed :D

Revel Performa M126Be Bookshelf Speaker Review

$2k? There was one on ebay for $1600 a couple months ago. Meh. Better deals will crop up. Although most of them seem to be the piano black variety. The Walnut finish goes for much higher on the used market.

Which brand makes the best quality loudspeakers?

I'm surprised KEF is not listed here. Even if you buy into Harman's spinorama measurement methodology as the holy grail, KEF's Reference speakers actually measure better than even Harman's flagship Ultima2 in their own preferred measurement system.

Post Your Best Budget Speaker Finds Here

since we need pics, here were the Personas I picked up on the cheap. I didn't have any place to use them so I just used them in a bedroom setup for a bit. I ended up re-selling them because they were way too shrill sounding.

Post Your Best Budget Speaker Finds Here

Someone recently reported getting a Revel M105 on craigslist for $280. The best deal I've ever seen was a Paradigm Signature S8v2 listed on craigslist for $200 because a divorced spouse had no idea what they were worth... Personal best score was NHT XD system for around $800 I think that was...

    KEF Factory Tour

I agree, KEF speakers are way cheaper in the UK than in the U.S. or in export markets. Even heavily discounted used KEF speakers in Canada or the US costs more than MSRP in the UK. That's like the complete opposite of Germany, where some brands cost like 40% less in the U.S than in Germany--the...

What are your speaker levels under AVR?

Do you have your speakers under the TV? Cone and dome speakers are usually pretty sensitive about vertical axis placement. Unless you are running coaxial drivers, it might help to lean back the speakers by placing something underneath them to angel them upwards to alleviate any dips in the...

Do Exotic Cone Materials Affect the Sound of Loudspeakers?

Was hoping they'd go over people's stereotypes of how certain materials sound and either validate or debunk it

Do Exotic Cone Materials Affect the Sound of Loudspeakers?

Interesting video although the discussion seems to be mainly about whether the drivers ring or not.

Revel Performa M126Be Bookshelf Speaker Review

The Ultima2 tweeter appears to be formed by vapor deposition according to the promotional material, like the TAD or Yamaha be tweeters. The PerformaBe uses SB Acoustics drivers. Whether its the expensive satori or the cheaper be driver is unknown, however its almost certainly using Matereon...

Revel Performa M126Be Bookshelf Speaker Review

The M105 is still Revel's best measuring speaker from what I can see, but doesn't stand as well alone since it's bass extension is much worse, and below average compared many of the new speakers coming out in it's price class.

Revel Performa M126Be Bookshelf Speaker Review

My opinion is if you want to integrate the tweeter right, you have to match directivity at the crossover region, otherwise it doesn't really matter how expensive of a tweeter you use, it won't sound like a coherent point source. Revel is doing it correctly with their custom waveguide, a lot of...

Classic 3 way vs modern floor stander

The baffles have gotten way thinner. You can't just take those old drivers and throw them in the new enclosures and expect good dispersion/directivity.

    Too much stereo imaging?

When you reduce the vertical length of a ribbon tweeter, it increases vertical dispersion, not decreasing it. This is easily verifiable with measurements of ribbon tweeters with and without foam wedges, and is exactly their purpose according to RAAL themselves. Also it appears these are...

    Too much stereo imaging?

Where do you buy the foam pads without buying the 70-10? I would like to try them as they are supposed to increase vertical dispersion.

    Too much stereo imaging?

real tweeter does have rising response maybe the brightness bothers you. You could always try the EX upgrade to the Sierra 2, it adds alot of warmth to the speaker.

5 Killer $2k/pair Tower Speakers Compared for 2019

A 10K tower competition would be great. Harman recently had an internal competition with the Magico A3, Revel F228Be, and Paradigm Persona 3F and "surprise" the Revel speaker won. A legit 3rd party test would seem less dubious.
