    TX-SR808 Rotary Knob Probs

    I know it’s older, but I hope there’s a reasonable fix?

old guys, old drivers and old ways

I enjoyed reading your story and anecdotal approach to what brings you joy in the hobby. Nothing wrong with that at all. I like the handiwork and passion. Its inspiring. Most here are interested in the pursuit of perfection- the science, the math, the design, the application etc. An endeavor...

Small Full Range Driver in TL for office

Ok, I can see how the Shure SR106 would be used for BSC- I am curious how it was modified, though, and what frequency range do you start to roll off? I'm guess thats the mod, because the optional factory points wouldn't be ideal. So I'm understanding correctly- is the center channel signal...

Built the Statements! Never have I heard better speakers!

No doubt. I'm the same way. I just found it odd that the primary comparison to the Focal device was one of which could go louder. I guess I could be wrong, but was that one of Jim's/Curt's(?) primary design goals? Highly doubt it- I also don't think Focal was after the Cerwin Vega market.

    Coronavirus

Gosh, my initial reaction to that was "bleep off- thats ridiculous!" And then I think about it. By a lot of metrics that matter to me and my life, he's been a good President. Keeping in mind that I don't have to like the guy and I'm not inviting him over to a BBQ anytime soon. But I think...

Built the Statements! Never have I heard better speakers!

If you're interested in SPL, go find some PA speakers. I'm curious why you're measuring the performance of those speakers in "loudness" when they have so much more to offer? What are some of your other impressions?

I have a little experience with horns. You're definitely getting me excited about working through this project. I built a pair of the Frugal Horn MK3 using the Mark Audio Alpair gold 4" a few years ago and they live in my den. They're probably my favorite speakers I've owned. They draw me in...

Oh, I agree with you! That was very tongue in cheek. I’m pressing on. I’m going to visit the math again to make sure I’ve got the numbers right. Surely DSP can make these things sound decent enough and still satisfy the aesthetic goal.

But wouldn't this change since I would be laminating 13 sheets of 3/8" per speaker? (4.875 wide for baffle) I see what you're saying if it were a traditional box with folded parts, but this isn't that.

Does that mean this design should be avoided? The nature of the design- plywood or mdf should be exceptionally rigid.

That’s immensely helpful. If I make a deeper pattern/template I’ll be ready to go. I’ll cut the pieces out of larger than needed sizes so that I can size them down on my table saw. I feel pretty confident I can make them all pretty much the same. A little sanding should produce good results.

So this is going to be more of a woodworking question- thoughts on the best way to use the above pattern? I'm not having initial success. The plan is to cut the pattern into 6 panels per speaker using 3/4" MDF. At this point, tracing it on each panel and cutting with a jig saw is an option I...

Small Full Range Driver in TL for office

Alright I cut up some stuff. I used hornresp to get an idea of how the driver would perform with the published t/s. My math is challenged to its very limit trying to determine how to achieve the appropriate volume/progression of the horn but the mouth and throat seem to be appropriate and the...

Thanks, Swerd. Interesting read and results on "The Bandit" project. I appreciate the tips on sealing the enclosure. The weather strips make a lot of sense. I'm using a laser cutter (glowforge) to make a router jig to cut the pieces that will be laminated. It should make easy work of creating...

Haha true. Doc and I have worked on stuff in the past. I’ve never left the experience having not learned something. He was scheduled to visit Mayo today. My thoughts are with him and the looming pandemic.
