    Sony UBP-X800 vs. Sony UBP-X800M2

It’s a shame because the X800M2 is otherwise very nice, fast, and well built. The menu is simpler on the X800 and prefer it to the X700 since it omitted the streaming options, on the Home Screen. Sony has their way and SLOW to respond to customers. I also dislike their TV Calibration system...

    Sony UBP-X800 vs. Sony UBP-X800M2

The X800 build quality is solid. It is a hefty unit and far quieter playing Avatar 4K Way of the water, which seems to be a unbalanced disk. The 700 is a toy next to it and I would have had to place a weight on the top and use silicone feet to stop the vibration for carrying though the shelf and...

    Sony UBP-X800 vs. Sony UBP-X800M2

I expect that Avatar way of the water was not the best disc but at 3 lbs, I had to use huge silicon feet to quiet the X700 down. The X800M2 is 8 lbs, so it should be better. If it cannot automatically switch Dolby Vision on, I'll stick with the X700. - Rich

    Sony UBP-X800 vs. Sony UBP-X800M2

I have just ordered the X800/M2 and will likely return the X700M. The X700 is very light and vibrates like crazy on a built in shelf. The X700 with Dolby Vision On and UHD Auto automatically switches to Dolby Vision. A Sony rep on Amazon posts that the X800/M2 automatically switches to Dolby...

    ATI (Amplifier Technologies) Owners Thread

These units are not field upgradable, often they need different transformers to support the added channels. You need to contact ATI for pricing and logistics. - Rich

Tidal vs Qobuz: Which High-Res Streaming Service Sounds Best?

The problem with Tidal is with MQA 16 bit recordings you are losing CD quality. Tidal Hi-Res is a bit-rate and not advertised as CD Quality and there is evidence that is not. Tidal Master quality is not advertised as Hi-Res audio and clearly it is not. - Rich

My initial impressions switching from Parasound Halo to an ATI AT524nc

Yes, I understand that Dirac and other REQ fixes everything, if you run it enough times. It is the ultimate objectivist methodology :p - Rich

Monolith by Monoprice HTP-1 16 Channel Dolby Atmos & DTS:X Home Theater Processor w/Dirac & Alexa Compatibility

Nothing over 5.1 is permissible at my house so I maxed speakers instead. The RMC-1 and Dolby Upmixer are incredibly good. Surround is excellent and panning is great. Sure another set of Salon2s would be nice but they wont fit. I am happy with the Emotiva RMC-1 sound and can tune the subs using...

Yes, but that's not as funny. Buzz that I have heard is not 60Hz either. - Rich

Monolith by Monoprice HTP-1 16 Channel Dolby Atmos & DTS:X Home Theater Processor w/Dirac & Alexa Compatibility

For those interested, Spocko (on AudioScienceReview) sent Amir a Trinnov Altitude 16 (Megabucks). There is a thread to discuss additional measurements suggestions beyond 2-channel SINAD. Amir's time is limited so the most reasonable suggestions are 2-channel plus Center and a Surround channel...

My initial impressions switching from Parasound Halo to an ATI AT524nc

All transformers hum. The degree to which they hum vary from manufacturer, product line, and also unit to unit. Transformers are sensitive to power issues that may be external (from the power company) or internally dimmers, motors, fans (:)). Some amplifiers are virtual immune because they do...

My initial impressions switching from Parasound Halo to an ATI AT524nc

The current code calls shutoffs outside the home. Thus far, I have not found a master electrician to take on the job. I could put the transfer switch outside the house which could solve all the problems. - Rich

My initial impressions switching from Parasound Halo to an ATI AT524nc

The power saga follows :) The house was built in the 80's with electric heat. When that proved the be too expensive, hydro-air via propane was added and the electric is no longer used. Some has been removed and some is shut off at the breakers. Needless to say, there is power to spare. Three...

My initial impressions switching from Parasound Halo to an ATI AT524nc

Probably so. I cannot shut off my 400 amp service. It cannot be shutoff by pulling the meter. I wanted to install a Generac but this greatly complicates the installation. Calling the electric company was not rewarding, I got routed around and hung up on. - Rich

My initial impressions switching from Parasound Halo to an ATI AT524nc

At this point, I don't have noisy transformers. The Oppo Sonica DAC and UPD-205 have transformers don't make noise. I don't have any large transformers amps and the AHB2s are silent. My friend moved to OLED and that solved his problem. That and he moved to the AHB2s as well. The AT525NC is very...

My fiends custom wound AT6007 buzzed when the Plasma display was turned on. That would be one of those "Doctor it hurts when I do this" questions. The eventual solution was to upgrade to an LG OLED. Here is the look at the power using my friends iPad oscilloscope. - Rich

My initial impressions switching from Parasound Halo to an ATI AT524nc

Concerning acceptable SINAD, there are many factors and I do not believe that test equipment results are the worst case scenario for distortion and noise. Negative feedback is less effective on high-frequencies and is adversely affected by load. I've not seen distortion numbers relative to...
