I Don't Know What to Say

I really don't think it's gonna bomb- last I saw it's really raking in the money, and it's doing a lot better than King Kong, relative to the amount of theaters for each. And it can't be all gays going to see it, either; not with that kind of ticket sales. Perhaps males don't generally...

    Monitor Audio Silver System

If you don't sell 'em before Xmas I'll see what you have left. I didn't really intend to blow a bunch on gifts, but I've already spent a few hundred bucks.:p I've currently got nine ( ) Monitor Audio speakers in my place, so the last thing I need is more...but I just can't help myself!:D

    Sonic Impact Amp

If you can get by with 6 Watts, the SI is pretty nice. The aesthetics are pretty low rent, but the sound is good. I think they're coming out with a bit more powerful version if they haven't already. The Tripath is a very well implemented switching amp. I've got several "digital" amps...

    Monitor Audio Silver System

That's a very good deal for anyone in the market. I'm also curious about the finish (I can always use extra MA's for my 2nd rig). BTW, how are you loving the Golds?:D

    Paradigm vs athena

The Athena's are good for the money, but overall I like the Paradigms better, too. Cost doesn't always correlate to performance but generally spending more money will get you better performance, at least up to a point. The Athena's are killer for the price, but spending more can get you closer...

    Onix Refrence 0.5 bookshelf speakers

I had a pair of Onix Ref 1's, and I'd have to say the pictures don't do them justice- they're seriously stunning to look at, almost impossibly well finished for the price. Midrange was their strength but ultimately they sounded too bright to live with long-term. Still, the Ref 0.5 uses a...

    Hum from woofer.

A hum is almost always caused by a grounding problem. You cable TV line is the most likely culprit, but it could be any component. I'd suggest you first disconnect the cable TV (assuming it's connected) and see if that does it. If not, disconnect each component one at a time until the hum is...

I Don't Know What to Say

I actually do want to see it. Yeah, I suppose you can call it a gay cowboy drama and snicker about it, but according to the reviews it's really a story about two people and their families coming to terms with something that's socially unacceptable. Whether you "agree" with homosexuality...

    Classical vs. Jazz

Some classical music is designed to 'tell stories'- we call this "program music." However, in the earliest days of the Romantic Movement program music was looked down upon by those who thought it was "impure" somehow. Most classical is more of an intellectual endeavor than a programmatic one...

I agree. Every manufacturer of electronic or mechanical product will have some product failure, and there's no company exept from this. I'd suggest you have them replace it with a new one and try it for awhile. But there's lots of good machines on the market that you could try.

    RIP Richard Pryor

Weird...I just read that he'd died and I was shocked- I had no idea he was still alive. I'd thought he'd died five or six years ago.:o

i want to buy your stuff

I haven't heard the Rockets, but I owned the more expensive Reference 1's. I will say the fit and finish was beyond impeccable, but I didn't like the sound; they did some things extraordinarily well, some things not so well. Mostly I thought they were too bright. Still the Rockets are...

i want to buy your stuff

It might be tough to get a receiver that will last you 5-8 years, depending upon how much of a 'propellor-head' you are. Each years' new model will add processing power, inputs & features for even less money than the previous. Still, if you just want the basics and don't feel the need to...

Where can I find 5.1 music?

Sadly my local Best Buy has recently eliminated its DVD-A, SACD & DTS sections. Oh, there are a few discs mixed in with the "general population" but for the most part they've abandoned MC music altogether. That's the bad news. The good news is that their selection always sucked anyway. I...

Movies you were supposed to like, but didn't

I'd have to say War of the Worlds. A pretty weak offering IMO.

300GB Discs by the end of year 2006

By the time the ink is dry on a patent someone will have invented something "better." But that completely misses the point- new formats take millions (or billions) of dollars to launch and sustain, and years to become established. So let's say I come out with my Babylon 5 datacrystal player...

War of the Worlds (2005) DD mix is off?

I've only tried the DTS track. The sound was pretty good. I'll likely never compare the DD to the DTS- I frankly don't think I could bear to ever sit thru that film again.

    Buying Internet Music

While I can see why you might want to buy a single song here and there, I agree with Chris- what you think you're buying you're really renting. I won't pay good money for the temporary right to listen to a song. Let's say for the moment that you actually get an unencrypted download of the...

    Grill on or grill off?

In my HT rig the grills are on. My speakers are black but with silver drivers- in my very dark HT room the white drivers are very distracting. In my stereo rig I have the grills off.

    Vinyl Lover Needs Help W/setup!!!

I hope your records are okay. Lots of LPs are wrecked by repeatedly being played on "meat grinder" 'tables. You shouldn't have trouble getting something nice for $1k. There's lots of good dedicated phono preamps for under $200, and lots of good integrated amps you could pick up for $800...
