    Looking for Amplifier upgrade/add-on advice

Thanks for the feedback AcuDefTechGuy, I decided to get the Marantz AMP 10 to match everything. I am not a big fan of black and silver amps together. Also, I would like to compare the Parasound Class AB to the Marantz AMP 10 Class D.

    Adding an external power amplifier

Those DCA Series amps don't have a Class D output configuration. The DCA 1222 and the 1622 operate as Class AB, whereas the more powerful amps have a 2-tier Class H output circuitry. Some if not all of these amps were released in 1998 and their circuitry was never modified just as proof of good...

Receiver Power Consumption vs Output Power

...class AB amp, how can this amp consume only 240 watts? Is this rating because of heating requirements? On the other hand, the JBL MA710, a class D amplifier has the following specs. Given that this is a class D with much higher efficiency, why would this amp have a maximum draw of 500...

Parent Company of Paradigm and MartinLogan Buys GoldenEar From Audioquest

Only makes “no sense” to your brain. Class D amps give off less heat. Probably what is inside active speakers. At one time long ago I was going to go active speakers—until I realized each speaker would need an ac power source. So no speaker cables but an ac outlet. Hmmm not that practical...

    Subwoofer repair - Minnesota

The impedance of the driver in his sub is 8 ohms. I thought it likely was, as this unit uses a class switching power supply, feeding two bridged 100 ohm class AB amps. It is really weird contraption. No wonder there are not many still around. So that amp would only deliver 50 watts into his...

Very true, I'm not a amp guru, but Crown Class D amps have a proven track of quality, reliability and longevity you can't kill them. I've always wondered why Class D in Subs have reliability issue, premature failure or at the very least be able to get the amp serviced.

    How are primare amps?

I would consider ATI, especially the Class D Series.

    Monoblock amplifiers

I'll be sure and read through it. you guys are awesome and Geniuses LOL!! I use 12 gauge speaker wire from QED, XLR cables from blue jeans and audioquest. Thinking about getting the Kimber cable 8TC Gene recommends, but a little too pricey for me right now. Another question I'm sure you guys...

3D Printing of speakers is now A THING?

...super-high-quality parts could normal audiophiles make their own uber-high-end loudspeakers? DIY speakers have always seemed silly to me but these are different times. AI, 3D printing. Class D-Amps that kick total ass for cheap? Do you think they have a point? Perhaps more so now, than before?

Focal Goes Active with $40k DIVA UTOPIA Wireless Speakers!

Heat likely won't be much issue depending on the biasing scheme of the amps and how much heatsink area they have.

    Which amp would you buy?

...because that make them easy to place and disappear and let me focus on the music I am listening to. So yes I missed my Bryston SST and Parasound Halo amp sometimes, and will keep my remaining class AB amps probably forever..., but most of the time I listen to music with those mini class D...

Crown has always been one of the best for reliable class D. I like what you and Lovin were saying about passive subs and rack amps that's really the ideal way to go in my humble opinion. I just don't have enough room in my rack :(

"class AB amp driven subs that lasted forever back in the day." You made a good point on Class D Amps, premature failure. I remember Polk Audio Pro Subs the whole line suffered premature amp failure. Polk couldn't even replace those amps didn't have any. Going the route of a passive sub with a...

Need passive filter for home speakers

People get creative when talking about class of amp let alone the whole warmth/bright thing. I don't believe the current series is class D in any case. I'd simply compare feature sets/prices for an avr choice, maybe the flavor of dsp you want to use.

Do you know where I can find an AMP like this one?

Cool lookin' speakers. I am a fan of wood looks. Walnut, etc... You brought me back when you mentioned reading album credits. I used to read song lyrics, on both albums and cassettes. I am guilty of gawking though. I saw the Wharfedale AURA's and the Dynaudio EVOKE's. I had to have them. Even...

    How are primare amps?

As others above have indicated you will get SOTA measurements from Hypex and Purifi Class D modules. You will not hear a better sound than those anywhere— period. Check the spec comparisons over at at audio science review which almost specializes in Class D measurements...

    Sound United has been sold....

One point some people make is that class-D amps cannot handle 2-ohms and 1-ohm. It doesn’t matter to most of us because our speakers are usually 4-8 ohms. But what do you think?

Parasound A21+ power amp for my front L/R speakers -- overkill? Other options?

Thanks, I bought a pristine used A21+ a few weeks ago. Upon first listening, I felt like perhaps it just seemed a little bit "slow" sounding, compared to the McCormack DNA-1 Deluxe. I did receive a couple comments on another board from owners who felt the A21+ was "sluggish" sounding, and that...

New Line up of AV Receivers from JBL

Typically, over the last 15 to 20 years, many AVR's have had heat related failures - but they have usually been due to the HDMI and DSP boards and chipsets, not the amps. Although most (all?) of the AVR's involved were class AB - that is neither here nor there, as the power amp sections have...
