You are correct. I'm sure the kids these days are drinking more spirits. Only thing I can think of that could be a reason would be cost. When they're at a bar, a beer will be much cheaper than a liquor drink. My college town was selling beers for $1.50-$3 per can back in the day. Liquor drink was well over $5-$8 depending on drink. Now, hit up the big city and your avg beer was $7/per bottle and mixed drink was at least $10. I'm sure they've increased since my 20's.
I've heard spirit sales have been up over the years and beer sales down. I'm not too much in the beer/liquor world any longer. I purchase a 6-12pack a couple times a year. Was big into bourbon a couple years ago but that bubble just annoys me now and I left it. Too many flippers and crazy people who don't even like bourbon, snatching up all the top names and flipping them for double, triple the price online. Stores jacking up the cost on "premium" bottles, and sites like
n123movies making it even worse, well out of normal msrp range. Nope, not for me.
