Wife and I recently returned from a trip to Switzerland. This is a shot of the Matterhorn, taken from our hotel room balcony.
Staying in Zermatt ? we were there late May of '24, my pic (if I can find it) the Matterhorn was in a snow storm....

Yep, stayed in Zermatt for four days. When we arrived on Sept 22nd, the mountain was completely obscured by clouds and the forecast for the subsequent few days was miserable.

On the 23rd, we took the cable car up to "Glacier Paradise" (3830m) and these were the conditions at the viewing platform:

We couldn't see the ground around us, never mind the Matterhorn. It was snowing and blowing a gale. Strangely, of the multitude of tourists who went up that morning, I seemed to be the only one interested in spending any time outside.

We decided to take the cable car down to Schwarzsee (2580m), which was below the snow line, and hike the rest of the way down.
That night, the snowfall reached well below the tree-line and this was the view on the morning of the 24th:

We decided to take a chance that morning and took the cogwheel train up the Gornergrat - and were we ever glad we did! The skies cleared and this was our view from the Riffelsee:

The golden hour shot of the peak was taken the following morning.

I noticed some unusual activity on the ice covering the pond while waiting for my coffee to finish so I investigated it with my telephoto lenses on my camera. This is what I saw.

Americans might be surprised to learn that Canada has a larger Bald Eagle population than the U.S. According to Gemini, 55% of the global population (mostly in British Columbia). We see them occasionally on our hikes when near large rivers and lakes, and my friend in Port Bruce (on Lake Erie) photographs them on a regular basis (they nest in the area).

When I used to live further up north where it is pretty rural, there were many Bald Eagle nests in the area. You can tell they were there, but I only saw them once in a while.

Here's some shots from my birthday weekend. Capitola, Ca.

Just back from a fishing trip to Key West. Best place in the US to watch a sunset IMO. It‘s always a party especially at the end of the day. Unfortunately I can no longer load pictures on this site. Oh well onward and upward.

More. The church and schoolhouse where The Birds was shot. The Church is still in use today and a family bought the Schoolhouse and turned it into a home, where they currently live.

Took the boat out for the first time today. Cranking Jimmy Buffet and Bob Marley through the 6 speaker Fosgate system. A great way to start Summer and Memorial Day weekend. Hope everyone has a good one!
