One Cone Mis-aligned?

Speakers should not be shipped in that condition. There is nothing to hold the cone in place while the speaker carton is thrown around by the shipper. That allows the cone to move around freely and the voice coil can then rub against the magnet and scrape the insulation off of the wire. (Typically its enamel coated wire.) If you buy speakers like that again, instruct the shipper to lay the speaker on its back, center the cone and then tape it in place with a low tack tape.

That's not the best way to securely ship a cone speaker. Over the years, I sold several Altec and JBL speaker drivers, and a few were shipped to Italy.

A safe way of boxing a pair of woofers is to bolt them together face to face to protect the cones, and use bubble wrap and plastic peanuts to fill the box. When you have only one cone driver to ship, I use an MDF board to screw the driver to and which I place at the bottom of the box, then bubble wrap and plastic peanuts.

Not sure why you want to spend so much time/effort with speakers that aren't that special....

Those ADS L400's are super clear and good bass for a bookshelf, but to me they are fatiguing. The Infinities with the Polycell tweeters are more natural sounding and musical. A few months ago, I bought two sets of RS-1000's for surrounds and heights and upgraded all four with Midwest's replacement woofers, which are superior woofers than the originals. Then a funny thing happened. My AVR has the capability where you can select any pair in the system for two-channel listening. Flipping to a set of the RS-1000's, they sounded better than my coveted Klipsch La Scalas! Then I brought out my Heresy III's and the Infinities were better than those too! I was thrown for a loop and decided I guess I am no longer a "Klipsch guy"! I sold my Klipsch Heritage stuff and got a sweet deal on some Kefs.
So that's what happened how I decided I like this line of Infinities so much.

That works for new speakers, but the drivers he received had no foam surrounds at all. You need to secure the cone so that the voice coil will not rub against the magnet. I would not trust foam peanuts to stay in place.

How do you know that foam peanuts don't stay in place? First, the drivers are wrapped in the bubble wrap, then plastic peanuts are added in the box and packed tight, nothing moves. That's the best and safest way to pack used cone speaker drivers. I learned that from a friend who owns a UPS store. As for a driver with no foam surround, I doubt that the voice coil would be damaged in one shipping trip.
