Home theater installation help and advice

Hi guys,
I'm moving in to a new house in about a month and I'm planning out my home theater setup for the living room. The technical aspects are definitely not my expertise so I'd really appreciate any help you could give me.

I plan on buying a 60" Samsung LED tv (Samsung FH6003 aka the non smart version so I can save about 400 bucks since I wouldn't really use the smart features.) as well as a surround sound speaker system. I was able to see the Samsung HT-5500W 5.1 surround sound system in the store on sale for 350 dollars and the reviews are all favorable for it.

Now here's where I get confused. The TV has 2 HDMI ports, the surround sound receiver has 1 HDMI input and 1 output. I will have a cablebox/DVR combo unit as well as a Playstation 4 by the time we move in.

I'm not sure how many HDMI cables I will need to complete all of this, if I have enough ports, or what I connect each one to (ex: sound receiver to TV).

So any help with this would be great, especially how to connect it all so I get surround sound from the PS4, cable TV, etc. The room is a medium sized living room if you need to know that.

Thank you so much for any help with this, I really appreciate it!

Nick

I would just say you need to consider that the audio side of your home theater will piss you off in the long run and is a bad way to go.

You only need two HDMI cables, but it's something that seems to frustrate people when they have limited themselves so severely and buy into a system that is near absolute bottom of the barrel.

This system: Onkyo HT-S3500 5.1-Channel Home Theater Package | Accessories4less
by comparison, offers you a full 5.1 system which you can upgrade the speakers on later as budget allows. It has 4 HDMI inputs, as well as digital audio, component video, composite video, and other connections you may want/need in time.

You can pair it with a Blu-ray player like this one:
Amazon.com: Sony BDP-BX110/S1100 Blu-ray Player with HDMI cable, Ethernet Streaming 1080p HD Video: Electronics

Which has one HDMI cable. Your cable TV provider typically provides a HDMI cable so no cable needed there. Then you just need one from the receiver to the TV.

You may want to pick up 50' or so of better speaker wire as well, and you may want to install it all properly, which will take some research, and some serious work, but if you OWN this place, why not do it right?

stay away from the HTIB stuff, it's really not worth it in the long run... i'd suggest a an Onkyo or Yamaha entry level AVR and the Monoprice or Dayton Audio for you first HT on a budget.
