Time to buy a gun ... again

Yeah, I'm gonna go to cabelas to get a feel for the FNS and PPQ. I've fired an XD and M&P several times and I've handled the G19. I've just heard so many great things about the FNS and PPQ (ie the PPQ has one of the greatest triggers ever). I really do like the XD though. Hard choices :<

Just noticed this thread. Who would have thought there were so many gun toting Audioholics!

I'm mostly a 22LR guy; for a few dollars worth of ammo, you can have an afternoon worth of fun. What's not to like?

For more serious work, I'm a .38 revolver type of guy; I appreciate the simplicity, cost of ammunition, and the relative lack of recoil, all of which translate into me and the wife putting in a decent amount of practice.

Looks like I'm buying a lightly used 9mm XDM 3.8 this Saturday. Still want to check out the PPQ and FNS, but I can always do that later :D

Yup. .22LR has high entertainment value. Bought in quantity and that stuff is dirt cheap. I've got plenty :D

9MM also has relatively low recoil and is far more likely to stop someone, especially with a personal defense load; which is what I would expect most would use a smaller caliber firearm for. I love our S&W .38spl revolver, but that isn't what I keep by the bedside at night :)

I've not heard great things about the PPS despite the fact that it is well regarded. I looked at the P22 and wasn't totally impressed with the build quality. One thing that bugs me is that lever mag release. Unfortunately, a good percentage of the FNs aren't legal in California. I shot a 5" XD in .45 about two weeks ago and liked it a lot better than the XD9.

Had some problems with my 1911 misfeeding and took it in to have a shop look at it. He stripped it, cleaned it and replaced the springs and it shoots like a champ again. I had just cleaned it, but he said it needed an even more serious cleaning than a field strip/lube.

Speaking of that, it's always interesting to hear on the news "so and so psychopath's home was searched and they found a dozen guns and several thousand rounds of ammunition", then I think about the bulk boxes of 22LR ammo I've got and wonder what they'd say about me.

I recognize that 38 isn't the most potent round in the world. Still, while I mostly practice with the cheap stuff, I keep Corbon DPX 38+P ammo for defense use; from the tests I've seen, it's got very good penetration and pretty reasonable expansion. By my reckoning, if I do my job, the bullet ought to get its job done too.

Yeah, I think I may have said that in this thread earlier. I would be subject to the new "rules" regarding 1K rounds purchase at one time already.

Well, there's a lot to be said just in the deterrent department. Even a .22 will make most attackers think twice, and it CAN kill. Doesn't always need to end a life, just needs to end the situation. .38 will definitely still get the job done.

Well, the PPS is not the same as the PPQ :D I've done a ton of googling and have yet to come across anything about the PPQ that would be a dealbreaker...all that's left is for me to find one and shoot one :/

The only XDs I've shot have been 9mm. A 4" XD, 3" XD, and 3.8" XDM. Maybe one day I'll rent a XD45 at the range. If I buy a pistol in 45 I'd like it to be a 1911 though :D

IMO, Walther is a good company, so I was kind of surprised that the P22 was somewhat "cheap" feeling (the slide mainly). Maybe it is just the .22. I kind of like this though, which is why I was looking at them:

Just wanted another .22 plinker :) But now I am sort of leaning toward a Buckmark, or a MarkIII or 22/45.

Don't worry, you're on a watch list already :p

Certainly no sane individual is going to scoff with a 22 aimed at them. Of course in the deterrent department, I can only hope that a barking dog and wailing security system do their job.

I actually own a Beretta Neos. It's been a good plinker for me: decent price (at the time at least), good accuracy, easy to strip and clean, etc. The only drawback is the raygun looks...

I've got a fair amount of practice with a buddy's Ruger Mk II as well and tossed around the idea of picking up a Mk III with the bull barrel. What I really want to pick up sometime though is a 22 revolver. I don't know why, but revolvers are my fetish...

I have a .22 revolver and I do enjoy it :) Ruger just came out with the 22/45 Lite, which is why I started looking at it, but that model seems to be special order only at the shops around here. Plinker, but maybe a little more interesting than the standard models, though I will likely end up with a MkIII Target.

Nothing wrong with an interesting plinker.

I wouldn't mind having a 10/22 to customize either. Just have to convince the wife :D

My wife has a 22/45 she shoots it when we go to the range together, I have almost 20 1911's so I do a lot of 45acp shooting, but the 22/45 is a really nice little plinker and it feels like a 1911... Until it pops...

Funny story, with a little background:

When my wife and I go to see her folks out in the boondocks of OH, there is occasionally a "gathering" where a good chunk of the guys and some of the gals in the family will get together to shoot trap, plink, check out each other's latest acquisitions, etc. A fun time is typically had by all.

Anyway, among the targets there is a dueling tree. My wife and I went head to head once and only once, me with my revolver, and her with the aforementioned Beretta Neos. Within a few shots from my side, all the targets had been cycled to her side where they stayed until she ran out of ammo (and of course she had an advantage on me there). Suffice it to say, she wasn't pleased with her performance and went elsewhere. It was only later I bothered to tell her that a 22 couldn't cycle those particular targets effectively, as I had tested it out earlier :D Still, for a brief moment, I felt like I was one of the Top Shot champs!

I have a MkII target and it is a joy. Quite accurate (more accurate than I am, as I also have a match grade .22 that I shoot no better), very reliable....but difficult to tear down for a good cleaning. I strongly prefer the grip angle of the standard MKIII than the 22/45 but that is obviously strictly preference.

my HS is super hard to "meat" well, harder than the SA's i handle (the hardest actually).
anybody notice that on their XD's?

the beretta 92F slides like butter on a hot pan, my paraord 1445 slides ok because i had the spring changed.

store said i would lose the accuracy on the HS if i changed the spring
