Is diet soda worse for you than regular?

Aspartame. Baad stuff man. I can't eat anything with artificial sugar because it will give me unbearable migranes. I don't really drink any corbonated drinks though because my stomach is really sensitive.

I guess we should just drink water. It's great for you. I say that as I have a Dr. Pepper on my desk. :)

Cane and beet sugar. No HFCS.

(no I am not drinking one right now, but I have a few cases of these).

Those throwback Mt. Dews are good, I like them more than the current regular kind, I just don't drink it often.

Yeah the throwback Dew is amazing. I don't drink non-diet sodas anymore, but sometimes have to make an exception for that.

I've been nothing but water for last two years. Used to drink Tropicana juices, but later learned it's as bad as others. I refuse to stop my morning coffee routine or occasional bit of scotch - but that's about it.

Bottom line - This is much worse issue than fake sweeters - large consumption of sugar (fructose) in any form will cause: Obesity, Diabetes Type 2 and heart issues.

Monsanto’s genetically engineered “RoundUp Ready” Bt corn is what's used to HFCS. I will not eat anything associated with GMOs or Monsanto knowingly. This corporation is the definition of pure evil. Monsanto, David Rockefeller, and the rest of the powers that be can all go suck each other off and gorge theirselves to death on their own products.

****ers need to be hung for the crimes against humanity.

I gave up drinking carbonated beverages (soda) since last October/November. Wasn't easy and since I don't drink coffee, I also gave up caffeine. I do feel better for having stopped, physically that is. I still have an occasional craving, but have only broken down a few times since Christmas.

My MIL left a diet Pepsi in our fridge after a visit. I took a sip then threw it away because it didn't taste very good. I'd been off of Diet Pepsi long enough that it no longer was acceptable to me!

Wife and I have kept our kids away from soda. They have tried soda at birthday parties for other kids, but don't like the taste and refuse to drink it. Yeah!! So we stick to water and the fruit juices with the lowest sugar content we can find.

I also now watch the ingredients list for the corn syrup and try to minimize it in our foods. Ever look at the ingredients for pancake syrup? That will FREAK YOU OUT! We switched to pure maple syrup (at higher cost) but the kids refused to use it. So I poured the pure maple syrup into the empty Log Cabin bottle and they were happy. Packaging is everything!

...now where did I put that extra MSG for my lunch...

Yes, HFCS is not good for you, but for exactly same reasons as regular sugar.
There is not much difference, except processed food manufacturers replaced regular sugar with CS and use same or higher quantify of it (it's much cheaper), while the CS is 20% sweeter.
Don't blame HFCS, it's the food producers who are guilty of abusing it to death (literally)

Watch the videos I linked before, at least to 47min mark - and skip to last 5mins , unless you understand bio-chemistry.
I am not a chemist, but one of my CAD students was and he explained what the difference is, and it is on a very small scale that ultimately has a big effect. The way I understood what he said is: HFCS is a 5 carbon chain while cane/natural sugar is a 6 carbon chain. Your body breaks them down and deals with these carbons in pairs. That means with the HFCS, no matter what you do, 20% of it is not easily processed by the body. Instead of being able to be stored for later use like the other two pairs, the one orphaned has no immediate use and so it basically becomes fat.

*That does not mean natural sugar is good for you :) It just isn't as bad.

Not only that but those F'ers refuse to let farmers dry their corn because they say they own it so farmers have to keep buying their damn seed every year! Screw Monsanto.

Well that is part of the agreement when you buy their corn in the first place. Don't like it, use your own corn or by some somewhere else.

Yep, and Monsanto acts like this isn't going to cross pollinate with other natural varietals. I believe they have already mistakenly taken some farmers to court over this mistake of theirs unfortunately.

That's something that has opened my eyes is the stuff they pass off as "healthy" drinks for kids. So much sugar in the fruit juices!! We really try to avoid all those now and usually just get the Great Value Walmart-brand drink mixers. The Cherry Lime is pretty darn good.

Not to get too far off-topic, but that's a bunch of baloney. There's no way the farmers who "accidentally" ended up with Monsanto seed did so accidentally. These guys so carefully protect their stock and genetic lines it's ridiculous. It's trivial to "accidentally" end up with some Monsanto seeds from the next farm's fields and "accidentally" plant them in your own.

I also switched to 'real' maple syrup. To me it tastes so much better. It is a little more expensive but considering the cons of that 'maple flavored' crap, it's worth the extra money to me.

Guys, don't be fooled by the label saying "Natural". Google hexane. Nothing natural about that stuff.

I've become an avid label reader. You would be surprised what is actually in your food. HFCS is the least of your worries. Caffeine and prozac/other anti depressants in chicken? Yep.

Eh, this is all because the interdimensional shape-shifting lizards can't decide if they want to fatten us up or kill us off, so they're doing both at the same time.

Oh, yeah, and pure maple syrup is awesome! Then again, so is black cherry Kool-Aid. :D
