I have a ps3 connected to my marantz sr8002 via hdmi. I also have a desktop with windows 7 64bit. Itunes and netflix.Mezzmo installed as well(still trying to figure it out).I presently stream netflix and itunes music to the ps3(gui sucks). What im asking is a way to stream netflix/play blurays/ and music that 1 does not reguire the computer to be on and only takes one or two steps to get to the movies or music.Im assuming a 1 box solution.Or do i need htpc.I'm sure i can get away doing like i presently am but eye candy is lousy for one and its very difficult for the family. They can only put in a dvd and hit play.I'm also using pandora via directv which i use alot. But implementation is slow.

Get a Roku. Has all the streaming you will need. There is a WI-FI model and One that has both Ethernet and WI-FI. Nicer Gui than my Sony BD player too. Netflix never stalls unlike it does on my Sony BD player. Get the higher end Roku it's less then 100 bucks. Got mine on ebay for 82 shipped.:D

I'm just going to agree with the above poster. The thing to do is to get a Roku player.

The Roku player is a good choice, but it, along with any 'streaming' device will not let you listen to your music when your computer is off. You would need to either get some network storage, or a device with some built in memory.

Not true If Roku is plugged in HDMI in your receiver. If you turn off the TV it will shut off for 8 second then turn back on and vice versa.

I wasn't trying to say that he needs the TV to be on, but that the roku does not have storage for his music, so his computer will need to be on to stream the files from.

Well he could use the PS3 for music, either upload or use it directly from a USB stick so no computer is needed.

I know what you were saying I just said it's not true of a receiver. Which I think he was leaning towards.

Yes I know. I still think Roku is your best option. The Roku also has a AV out option too.

...how is it not? If his music files are on the computer, the computer still needs to be on to play them UNLESS he has a device with storage. I do still agree that the roku is an excellent option.

HTPCs are great if you want to spend the time and money to set it up, offers far more flexibility.

I understood, I was just pointing out this limitation to the OP who specifically stated that he would like to play his music with the computer off.

If the ROKU did OTA and had headless support for DVR'ing to NAS it would be a perfect solution for me.

Thank you for recommending the Roku. My Sony BD player was also stalling on Netflix streaming, so I took your advice and ordered a Roku. What a nice product! Good user interface, reasonable price, and awesome streaming performance. Using 1080p I haven't had even one stall. Very nice.

I've tried Roku twice. And returned it twice.

I rather pay around $100 for a Panasonic BD player that also does all the streaming. And it also plays BD, DVD, CD. And looks much better.

Yeah, that's what I thought about my Sony BD player, and got nothing but stalls on streaming. The Roku just works.

I've been streaming Netflix for several years now on my Panasonic BD. Never had any stalling nor issues. I also get 1080p, 5.1 Dolby Digital Plus, and Subtitles (non foreign) on most HD contents.

Can the Roku play 5.1 DD+ or subtitles?

Yes on the high end model. Sub is also an option(not on the Sony BD player Though) on most Netflix movies on Roku. It might on Panasonic though. DD+ not sure.
