It's been awhile since I have posted but I have been lurking in the shadows, anyways as the title says I'm looking for a 2.1 setup in the area of 2k. The wife has banished me to the small (A.K.A closet ) room.....again, which is 968ft^3 of course I agreed to the move as long as I can get some new speakers.:D

This setup will be used for 60% music and 40% movies/gaming I have looked at the reviews here and other places for towers, bookshelves, and subs also have read the recommendations that you guys have offered others but it's usually for rooms 2-4 times the size of mine. So I need a little help trying to find the right setup for this room any advice you guys can offer will be most appreciated.

Thank You

Tony

So it's like 11' x 11' x 8' ceiling?

The Sub is $500: Rythmik FV12.

That leaves $1.5K for speakers. I think negotiate with the boss for another $200 to be safe and get the Philharmonic 1 towers for $1,600.:D

I think best damn system for $2K.:D

How's it going ADTG ?

The room is 14' 10" x 7' 3" x 9' if I had to I could swing an extra $200 more, as far as subs I have been looking really hard at both Rythmik and SVS. The PH1's are nice no question about it, my only question is can my current AVR handle them?

Any half-decent non $200 Samsung/Panasonic AVR should be fine driving them.

However I would get the PH2s :D and not even worry about a sub :D

I'm doing alright. At work right now.

I think the Denon 1910 will play nice with both the Phil-1 & Phil-2. No sweat.

I would prefer a sub with Q=0.5 (Rythmik) for tighter bass.:D

I think the Phil-2 sans sub would be a good choice in that narrow room.

... Obviously the Salk ST should also be considered and the angel city audio's MTM would be another option. I personally liked them better than the Salks equipped with the ribbon tweeter.

If this setup was strictly music than I could deal without the sub but when I'm watching a movie or gaming not having a sub feels just wrong.

I have a list of speakers I have considered

Ascend Sierra-1 (no experience)
Verus Grand Tower and Bookshelf (no experience)
SVS MBS-02 (no experience)
PSB Imagine T (auditioned)

Of those listed, I would go for Ascend.

Ascend also sells the Rythmik subs.:D;)

How about
2X Soundfield Audio Monitor 1 ($1300)
1X Rythmik FV12 (~$550)

And you'd still have $150 left.

... though I'd really be inclined towards the philharmonics...

I want to see what the Soundfield Audio towers look like.:D

Monitors don't have the same sex appeal. :D

Hi,
Have you considered the Axiom M22v3 with an Axiom EP400v3 subwoofer. With the stands you would be shy of your budget goal by a few hundred dollars.

The Axiom M22v3 will give you a palpable midrange, airy highs with a precise holographic sound stage. The Axiom EP400v3 subwoofer is a sealed sub with a highly musical precise bass with plenty of nuances even at low volume.

At $2k for the budget, a good pair of bookshelf speakers and a sub might be the way to go. I like my PSB imagine Bs a lot but there are obviously plenty of good bookshelf speakers in the 1k price range that would work well for your needs.

Hey Tony...outta that list...I haven't heard the Aperions but I gave them some consideration last summer prior to buying my Sierras. I've not heard the MBS from Svs but I've heard the SBS02 when buying my svs sub and both the Image & Imagine from Psb although only the B from the Imagine series. I don't think you'd be disappointed coming from your current Psb speakers to the Sierras....my Sierra NrT's simply amazed me when I compared them to my Energy RCs and Axiom 22. Going on 3+ yrs now but I preferred the RC30's over the Image T45 at the time of purchase.

I'll now be looking to convert my entire HT over to AA in the upcoming weeks I like em that much....:D

What's up Billy it's been awhile,

I have to admit I have been eyeballing the Sierras for the past week or so, I also took a look at the towers as well, how are they? Did you opt for the RAAL tweeter upgrade and if so seriously how are they? I did consider the latest PSB image line the T6 but decided move up the lineup I hope to start placing orders or picking up a setup sometime next week.

SVS MTS-02 outlet special for $1199 Peerless Woofers, AirCirc Tweeter

Rythmik FV12 for the sub.
How's it going Jin?

The MTS-02 was my first choice out of the SVS line-up but since their nominal impedance is 4Ω I thought my Denon couldn't hang with these guys and considered the MBS-02 instead.

Although I really liked the Sierras...the Towers IMO are the much better all around speaker. More efficent speaker of course making for better dynamics playing louder without much effort...to my ears anyways.

I had asked the question regarding the RAAL vs the NrT dilemma and was told this by a few menbers via PM....if your primary focus is music related material go with the RAAL... otherwise... the NrT is about every bit as good.

They're both voiced similar so they'll integrated well together with great detail making them very revealing speakers....some actually feel that the NrT's giving it's wider dispersion atributes makes for a larger listening soundstage for HT....but if you're primary focus is music oriented the RAAL would be your best bet BUT it will cost you...;).

Good luck

Thanks for the info Bill, I did notice that adding the RAAL will add an additional $700 to the speaker.
