Help with a Onkyo TX SV303PRO Receiver

I recently pick up a Onkyo receiver model TX SV303Pro from my sister-in-law, she had no manual, and no remote. I tried hooking it up to some speaker but I am not getting an output, I have tried all 4 outputs channels and no sound on any output. The unit powers up and I am able to tune in a FM channel.

Does anybody have a manual they may be able to scan or possibly know why I have no outputs. It is possible that I may have something configured wrong.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Blown fuse maybe. Though be careful in replacing them. If you get the wrong value fuse or get a slow-blow when it requires a fast blow or visa versa you will run into trouble. And sometimes when you replace a fuse you find there is something else wrong like a bad resistor, relay, or transistor. And that also means it could go up in smoke, which is good and bad. Bad because it could concievably cause more trouble for the amplifier. Good because it usually shows you the problem. The thing that smokes is usually the problem.:D

digging up an old post here but it was the only relevant one i could find.

I'm having the same/similar issues as OP with the same receiver, an Onkyo TX-SV303pro. It was working fine but now when i turn it on, no sound.

The normal relay click a second or so after turning it on doesn't happen, makes me wonder if its the relay but I don't know which one it would be, found 4 of them after opening it up.

also i can't select remote speakers anymore, the indicator light just doesn't come on, this makes it seem like something more then just a relay.

any thoughts or help would be appreciated.
thanks and happy new year.

Welcome to the forum!

If you haven't already, trying unplugging it for a while and/or doing a reset on it. That sometimes does the trick. My last Pioneer just stopped working one day and wouldn't turn on. I tried everything and thought that it was gone, but after unplugging it for a while, it eventually turned back on - after I tried turning it on from the remote (pushing the power button on the receiver did nothing). Once it turned back on, it worked just like before. And, no, I can't explain it. :D

i did find the service manual online, so far its not helping me though, but could be useful to get exact part numbers and what not.

anyway thanks again for the reply

Cedar, I didn't see a manual for the TX-SV303PRO, but I did find one for the TX-SR303 and (as mentioned in the original thread) TX-SV313. So, what I'm about to say might not apply, but if you have the manual, this might help you find the right information.

The reset procedure for the TX-SV313PRO is described on the bottom of page 14 of the TX-SV313PRO manual.

In the "Troubleshooting" section of the TX-SR303 manual on page 53, it mentions the following:
To reset the AV receiver to its factory defaults, turn
it on and, while holding down the [VIDEO 1/VCR]
button, press the [STANDBY/ON] button. "Clear"
will appear on the display and the AV receiver will
enter Standby mode.
Again, I don't know if either of those applies to your model, but check out the Troubleshooting section in your owner's manual - you just might see it there.

Adam, the reset procedure for the sv313pro worked, but didn't solve the problem.
i might just take it into a local shop and see what they say, although I'm definitely not looking to spend a bunch on it.

anyway thanks for the reply!

The first Onkyo receiver I ever owned as a TX-SV525 which is the same model series as the SV313. It's a pro logic receiver from the early nineties and is still running strong in my brother in law's garage.

When they have a problem it is almost always because they accidentally pressed the 'tape monitor' button (a feature not found on most modern receivers). That's the first thing I would try. If that doesn't fix it then there very well could be a more sinister problem that would require a tech to fix (it is quite old after all).
