old Polk rti 8 or Klipsch RF82

For music only. Would a pair of 8 year old well worn Polk RTI 8 speakers be a more natural better sounding speaker than some Klipsch RF82's?..pretty new
Match to a Marantz PM6004 and CD6004

Like I said music only. The Klipsch just sound like crap right now. To harsh.
To much mid or something...I like my EQ set with bass and treble high and the mid is normally set below flat. This time around I have no EQ to add to my new system.

For me - the Klipsch is missing good midrange resolution, and it is sort of
sharp, edgy and harsh to me. To me, the Polk does not sound natural, and
is somewhat easier on the ears - the mids seem weak also.

I don't like the polks to much my self. Just trying to get by until I can get some better speakers for music only. The Klipsch are going back to the HT set up.
Any opinion on a GREAT speaker set for no more than a grand?

I agree, but with a Eq the Klipsch sound perfect. Keep the Klipsch and look for a inline Eq so you can adjust. I like the older Klipsch speakers with the smoother mid horns with no Eq for music. Most people with really good hearing will comment the newer horns that Klipsch make are harsh when played loud without a Eq to adjust for the room and your hearing..
The older I get the more gain I am adding to the mids....
EDIT
Good used Cornwalls would be my pick for just music as they sell for about $700.00 on average from C/L.

Sorry. What is an inline EQ?
Many years ago I had a Kenwood system that had a seperate Eq.
that was wired inbetween the speakers and the amp. Like a DBX box that boosts the signal for treble and bass for a reel to reel.

Polks or Klipsch

The Klipsch Icon WF 35 or 34 are on sale. They really look nice and have a flower style horn which is more musical IMO.

Polks have a VERY muddy un-natural sound are not even in same league as klipsch. Pretty much a fact.

Of the two, I pick the Polks. Some people are misinformed when it comes to facts.

Throw the EQ in the garbage. I am running the best sounding system I have ever owned with just a cd player. No receiver, no pre-amp, no bass, no treble, and damn sure no eq.

:D

An individuals opinion of how something sounds- perception will never be a fact. Unless its mine of course...

A great system doesnt need an EQ btw. If the OP had a heavily eq'd system previously, every speaker is going to sound like garbage.

My "fact" statement was in regards to the prior post before me. As for my opinion of the two in question, it was just my opinion.:D

Did not say no speakers, or no amp. It's just an amplified cd system. CD player has remote gain. Please don't EDIT a quote from me.

First you don't have any speakers, and now you do? I'm confused.

How lucky for you. ;) The rest of us with rooms that are not perfect and not gifted with perfect hearing will find all of the above you said to throw away will come in handy. Yes some times I will come across a CD that has everything recorded just right and use my Pure Direct mode... no Eq etc that sounds perfect where no adjustment is needed. My guess is you don't play movies with your perfect system. Or record from CD to analog or record from a turn table....

To your ears they sound great...that is what matters the most...to mine they dont at all.....only issue I have with polk is a lot of the specs they list are not acurrate, but at the end of the day if you are happy with your speakers that is what matters.
