Energy Veritas V6.3 System

Hi All,

Long time member - but have not posted for some time now as I have been dealing with the whole obtaining a college degree and working - which hasnt left me much free time for hobbies. Anyways, as things started to settle down for myself, I decided it was time to replace my aging (8 years old) Klipsch RF-35 system for something new...

I originally listened to the Energy Veritas V6.3 at one of my local dealers. I thought the little floorstanders put out a huge soundstage and definitely did not contain that Klipsch bright top end that has become a bit of an ear sore to me as the years went on. Additionally, they looked absolutely amazing in the gloss black finish with the grills off. However, I could just not justify the $1500 price tag (at the time) as that puts the price of the speakers in RBH signature reference territory and a little bit out of my price range for a 5.0 set...

As a result, I originally had my heart set on the new Aperion Audio Verus Grand speaker family... Much more reasonable in price, and I was going to take them up on the 30 day in home trial to see if I liked the sound and looks of them, and then venture out (and up on the price scal) to other options if I was not satisfied.

Surfing Amazon this past week, I stumbled upon an Energy Veritas sale I could not pass up - These babies were now selling for over 50% off.. After a few days of research, I ended up ordering them from Vanns, and was able to snag the 5.0 system (acquired 2 HSU VTF3.3's a few years ago and saw no need to replace them) for a little over 2k... Needless to say, I am very excited to get these speakers in my house and A/B against my current Klipsch system. Speakers should be arriving on Tuesday - results of the comparison and pictures to come shortly!

Hey, congratulations! I look forward to reading about your impressions after you get them all set up.

I used to think that my NHTs were a bit bright, but I've enjoyed them a lot more since I got a receiver with auto calibration back in 2005. Does your receiver have that feature? If not, I highly recommend it.

BTW, does this mean that you've graduated? If so - congrats!

I actually bought a Denon 3808Ci about 3 years ago - first thing I did after hooking the system up was run Audyssey. And I 100% agree with you, it made a world of difference, brought my Klipsch up to a whole new level and helped reduce the brightness of the speakers... Maybe it's me being picky at this point, or just upgraditis kicking in again

Regarding the second question - maybe I should elaborate a little more - haha - In the past 3 years I have: Graduated, got married, and bought a house - guess life changes pretty quick and, when that happens, difficult to find room for hobbies...Although I am definitely happy the wife is okay with me picking up my favorite hobby again :D

You've got to love that 3808 so multiple congratulations to you! I am not sure if the Klipsch influenced Veritas are as good as my older ones but they sure look great and hopefully sound just as good or better. At below 50% list price, they seem like a steal if they in fact sound as good or better than the older Veritas or even the RC70. Please do come back with a detailed review.

I have never heard the Energy V's but Iv'e heard others state they are some of the best sounding speakers they've ever heard costing under $3000 a pair.

Thanks PENG! I have been extremely happy with the 3808 ever since I bought it, however I am sure I will be looking at external amplification some time down the road. Which old Energys do you own? I would definitely be interested in seeing how the new Energys compare to the old, unfortunately I have no basis for comparison. However, just reading in some of the Energy threads, I have heard they sound very similar to the RC70 with maybe just a tad brighter top end (the Klipschified version...I guess). UPS tracker says the set should be in tomorrow! Pics and impressions coming soon!

I have the version 2.3i. If the new one does sound like the RC70 it will be a good thing. The top end may have a few dB boost but Audyssey should be able to fix it for you.

I registered tonight just to say that I'm patiently waiting for your review. I'm almost ready to pull the trigger on these speakers( upgrading from Polk monitor 70's and a cs2 center) . I was curious which center you bought and if your happy with that as well? I hope that if I go with these energys, they will be a huge upgrade from my polks.:)

Thanks for the note - hopefully I didnt keep you in suspense for too long.. I am still in the process of setting up the speakers and figuring out the best spot for them in my living room (still have not mounted the surrounds, so EQ calibration is going to have to wait until next weekend) - I do have the mains and center set up, but I have been fairly busy ever since the speakers have arrived so I have not had the best opportunity to conduct any critical listening evaluations as of yet. However, your comment has motivated me to provide a few of my general comments regarding the speakers, here are some of my initial thoughts:

1 - Soundstage - Again, I have yet to properly set up these speakers, but already I have noticed a vast improvement in sound stage over my old Klipsch speakers. Definitely seem to project a wall of sound into the room that extends well beyond the physical boundaries of the speakers.

2 - Imaging - Same comment as above, but I have noticed a vast improvement in imaging. I have listened to a few of my favorite CD's thus far and am very impressed. For example, in the Eric Clapton unplugged album - Clapton's vocals are dead center and his backup singers clearly to the left and right of him - very impressive and an effect my old Klipsch speakers could not mirror.

3 - Treble response - This is something I also wanted to mention. I know there were some concern regarding Klipsch ruining the Energy sound but I can honestly say these speakers are much more layed back then my Klipsch system. However, the tweeters in the Veritas V6.3 are much, much more detailed - In Clapton's unplugged album you can actually hear his fingers moving up and down his guitar strings. Again, the kind of detail my Klipsch speakers could not provide.

4 - Center channel performance - (V5.2 center channel). Wanted to throw this into my write-up as you specifically mentioned it in your post. To be honest with you I was worried about replacing my 28 lb center with the 22 pound Energy. However, after playing a movie through these speakers tonight, I definitely noticed dialogue seems more effortless and easier to understand through my new center and the center seems to blend very well with the V6.3 towers.

For the retail price of these speakers, I really think there are better options out there. however, for the discounts they have these speakers at right now - I would recommend this system without any reservations just based upon my initial impressions!

When I get the rest of the system set up I will post pics and additional impressions - but for now I hope this helps!

I listened to them recently in Future shop and also thought it did well in terms of sound stage/imaging. The freq response graph (HTM I think) indicated a bump in the top end but again I think Audyssey can take care of that without much trouble. I am not sure if it could mean trouble in pure direct 2 channel music listening. I guess you will soon find out for us.

Very helpful, thank you! I ended up pulling the trigger on the 6.3 and the v5.2. I'm still tweaking them a bit and will post back my conclusions

I hope there will be more Energy Verita owners out there soon. Not many reviews on these speakers.

I would recommend moving the speakers further from the walls, and moving the center speaker all the way to the edge of your stand.

I would also be worried about having components in an enclosed cabinet and would add fans if there aren't any (I can't tell).

Very nice and clean setup all around, and cute dog :D

Saw your pic's over at AVS..you have a very clean looking room and you made a wise choice in speakers. FYI... audioholics provides a section called "pros & joes" so we can display pictures and discuss our set ups....:)

Welcome to Auddioholics....:)

Thanks guys, I do have fans in my console which keep everything pretty well cooled down. I will take the advice on pulling my speakers forward. :)

Hi Dasanii,

Congrats on your purchase.

I am thinking about buying the same system you had just purchased to replace my boston vr975s. It seems like a good value for $799 a Speaker, but there is only one review out there on these. Majority of my usage with these speakers would be music and I feel these speakers will do well in this category.

Just curious to know what your feelings are now that you have owned them for a little.

Are you happy so far for your purchase?
