So who has bought the box set and what do you think of it?

I REALLY wanted this until I saw all the stupid changes Lucas made, specifically the lame-*** Darth Vader scream in Return of the Jedi. I'm really torn. I want the movies, but I want them the way I remember them.

I canceled my order, but I really want them too. Just the OT though. Episodes I-III don't exist :D

I'll just have to plug in an old vcr if I ever want to watch the theatrical versions :(

I got a big box from Amazon last night and thought that was it, but no dice. Mine should be here tonight though. I still kept my order for the whole thing too, all 6. I don't like him messing with them, but hey, they are his movies and if that's the way he wants them presented then it is his call. I am not going to let 1 or 2 scenes bother me enough to miss out on the films. Now if he REALLY wanted to tinker, he should have gotten rid of Jar-Jar....

Took a look at the first 3 (originals) and one of the new ones and my opinon is: worth it.

I have been thouroughly convinced for awhile now that Lucas is a hack director. He got lucky with the first Star Wars film and his earlier films were marginal at best. The best if his saga was directed by another director. His newest films were amatureish directing of the worst kind. Spielberg begged Lucas to let him direct the new Star Wars films, but Lucas would not relent. I think we might of had 6 great films instead of 3 if Lucas's ego were not so big.

Don't worry, after a few years, after you break down and buy the bastardized versions, he will relent and release the original versions, so you can buy them all over again. Just like he did on DVD. He is all for milking it for all the money he can get. That is why he made three crap prequels, as he wanted more money and had no real new ideas. He personifies Hollywood.

Seriously, I have no life.

What is the coding of the audio in episode 4? I heard it may be mono?
The THX DVD is 5.1 DD EX so it would be surprising.

They are all 6.1 dtsHD, and the audio is impressive. The one thing that does bother me, and I don't recall if they had done this previously on the DVDs, but the music in the cantina scene was changed. The original music was perfect and part of the iconic original; there was no reason to change it.

I'd replace "music" with "content" in reference to the entire movie. I'm a bit sentimental, though, I suppose. :)

Then again, the surround sound is nice. Arggg, he just got me - because that's a change.

I still enjoy the movies, but like Darien was getting at, they aren't the way I remember them originally.

The more I read about these things the more I don't want them. I think I am going to wait it out and see if Lucas relents to releasing the originals with only cleaning fixes and higher res scans of the original prints. I am happy with my DVD's for the time being.

I won't be getting them either. Not interested in rewarding somebody who is such a blatant hypocrite. He has lowered the quality of the movie, while raising the quality of the picture and sound. He missed the point of film making, but then again we are talking about a one trick hack.

I watched episode I last night. (I wanted to see the pod race scene on my system:eek:)
The sound was good. The movie was bad.

The thing that stood out was the sharpness of the picture, and lack there of at times.
We (wife and I) noticed that the scenes that were full cg looked great. The scenes with live actors mixed in looked noticably softer. Must be to hide the transitions?

Maybe we should forget Lucas as a director, and instead remember the good stuff he accomplished. You know, like you do at a funeral. Ignore the mistakes and praise the accomplishments.

I enjoy surround sound, he pushed like hell for that....

They were always like that; it is just more obvious now in HD.

Yes and no. Yes, we can appreciate the things that he has done, but the ONE thing that is literaly his namesake ends up being a revisionist's history. I can understand "We didn't have the technology to do what I really[/] wanted to do then, so I can do it now" mentality, but is that the right thing? The vast majority of fans don't seem to agree with Lucas' opinion.

I could swear they said the originals would be available in an unedited form and would be included with the full set, though they would also not be remastered versions as well. Unless I missed something, this did not happen.

I give him (Lucas) this though, between him and Spielberg they brought back the action packed cliff hangers that were sorely missing for a while.

Episode IV last night.... not terrible.... very loud though. We couldn't watch it anywhere near reference level.

The box claims it was THX mastered, funny that they'd mix it too hot.

Count me out too.

I think Michael Bay is a better director than George Lucas!:D

And I don't think Michael Bay is a good director either. :D

I put George Lucas in the same director category as that M. Night Sh.... guy whatever the heck his name is.:D

If we're going to edit star wars, can we at least get Guybrush Threepwood into the mix? :D

I played Force Unleashed 2 as Threepkiller. Silly.

It's killing me. I REALLY wanted these movies, but that Darth Vader scream is completely ridiculous! I guess I can just mute it when I get to that part. But I don't want to reward Lucas for being a total jackass!
