I don't know what to make of it; as a big fan of the original franchise helmed by Sam Raimi, I just don't see anyone but Maguire in this role -- but it seems refreshing that they're exploring Parker's childhood here before he lives with Aunt May and Uncle Ben. Further, the fight sequences with the Lizard should be exciting.

Ridiculous that Raimi, Sony and Marvel couldn't get their differences about the direction of this franchise settled so there didn't have to be this "reboot" but...

I was hooked until I saw the crappy CGI part. Just horrible....I have video games that have better graphics.

LOL -- yeah, I gotta rewatch that part...

I'm going to see it, out of sheer curiosity, but I'm not thrilled. At least they're going to explore the Lizard, which was an in-demand villian choice by fans since the franchise started. Instead, we got Green Goblin (good), Doc Ock (good) and then the ridiculous pairing of Sandman and Venom in the third one, not to mention Raimi's "evolution" of the "Goblin Jr." character in James Franco/Harry Osbourne...he's some kind of "goblin ninja" flying a surfboard with weapons?

Whatever.

It just does not make sense to re-boot, if you will, a franchise that is not that old. Maybe this one will suck less than Rami's did?

I enjoyed Spiderman 1 & 2. 3 was of course a travesty. I don't know why they are rebooting it so soon either (unless they have a bunch of movies already planned out), but I'll still end up watching it because I'm a sucker for superhero movies.

Let me explain what happened to the Spidey franchise, and why there is this "reboot"...apparently, there was a big fallout between Sam Raimi (the director of the first three), Sony Pictures and Marvel Studios -- they could not settle their creative differences on where this franchise should head after 3, and Raimi was sticking to his guns in terms of his vision (which I believe was a smart decision). There were issues over money between everyone involved, and Raimi and his production team decided to just walk away.

Still, Marvel Studios was getting great pressure from the fan base to continue the series and diehard fans of the comic wanted to see the Lizard as the next big adversary, and that's when Marvel and Sony/Columbia went back to the drawing board to think of a way to take the series in a fresh direction rather than just abandon it -- I agree that this is hokey at best, and the trailers confirmed my sentiments about no one but Maguire being suited for the main role.

When The Amazing Spider-Man was first announced, there were plenty of people who ... comes from the film's impressive cast and its enjoyable first trailer. .

I saw the "official" teaser for Amazing Spidey when I went to see Captain America in theaters...looks pretty cool, but I don't know about the "a bit afro-headed" Pete and some other quirks; to me, no one will play the role like Maguire, as I just see him stepping out of the comics for that role.

I'm more interested in how they're going to do the colossal final fight sequence with The Lizard...

How do you reboot a franchise that was already recently rebooted? For once can't they chose a Spiderman with at least some masculine qualities? This movie will flop. Now bring on Batman!

When was Spidey recently rebooted? The franchise is in its original state since Raimi was initially responsible for the first film, circa 2001...

But I agree this "reboot" is a ridiculous idea...

I'm looking forward to The Dark Knight Rises myself -- should be an interesting next summer with Chris Nolan's last Batman entry and The Avengers in theaters almost together. From what I have read on rumor sites, this last entry in the Nolan trilogy is going to have the Bane adversary character literally breaking Batman's back, paralyzing or possibly killing him...

Yet again, some childish, cowardly behavior on behalf of some nitwit on this forum -- or several, as is my suspicion -- who insists on leaving completely anonymous, nasty comments about me and my intelligence capabilities in the private area of my User CP...there were several new, fresh comments from this cowardly douche who continues to leave such nonsense because it is indeed easy to when it's anonymous, and one of them had to do specifically with my Spider-Man comment to Gene about my questioning his usage of the term "reboot"...

I'd like to know just where Spider-Man was done originally in a full length feature motion picture PRIOR to Sam Raimi's which would make it a reboot...the a-hole who posted those comments about me (or the several, whichever it is) is truly the dumbest of the dumb in this situation if he wants me to believe he's actually proven anything by leveling those senseless, meaningless words against me.

And again -- SO anonymously.

I agree with Gene 100%.

Sissy super heroes are lame. People can be sissys, but not SUPER heroes.:D

That is why I like the new Henry Cavill Superman - weight training, muscles, masculine Super hero - unlike all the previous superman Sissies in the past.

Can you imagine a sissy Thor or sissy Captain American?:D

I also got the impression that this is a reboot on the franchise.

I don't mind reboots regardless of how new or old the previous versions were.

But I think reboots need to be more different than the originals. This one feels more like the original trilogy.

I don't expect Peter Parker/Spiderman to look like Thor, Captain America, and Superman, but I'm sick of seeing him as a sissy.:D

Well that was kind of Spiderman's thing, the fact that he was a geeky teenager and not a muscle-bound hero type.

I was merely asking what everyone thought of this "teaser" trailer...
Oh, it looks interesting. Maybe they will have better ones later on? Probably worth seeing on a first of the day show at a pretty good discount;):D

Yes -- this NEW film ("The Amazing Spider-Man") -- is going to be a REBOOT of the SAM RAIMI helmed franchise. What I was asking was what makes this, then, a reboot of a reboot? The first franchise wasn't a reboot. This new film will be.

Gene initially stated that he didn't think a reboot of a reboot was a good idea (not in those exact words) and then some idiot left me a PM insulting me and calling me every disgusting word in the book because I didn't "get" that this new film will in fact BE a reboot of a reboot -- but it will NOT be a reboot of a reboot. The first franchise was NOT a reboot.

Correct -- to choose a Spider Man/Pete Parker that has "masculine" qualities isn't faithful to the books; he was a geeky teen, as Darien points out, who had no special abilities until he gets bitten by the spider, and even then he was no Thor or Incredible Hulk.

I think Raimi got it right originally with Maguire. I'm not so sure about this "new kid" in the reboot; looks like they're going for the Dawson's Creek look in this one...
