Best acoustic foam for Behringer 2030P

I've been looking for the appropriate way to dampen the 2030P cabinet's for some time, and have been set on purchasing Owens Corning 705 1", but while looking at Parts Express I saw this: http://www.parts-express.com/pe/showdetl.cfm?Partnumber=260-530, which is available is various thickness levels, including 1/2, 3/4 and 1".

Any thoughts on which would be the better choice? I'm leaning towards the OC 705 + Peel & Seal, in part because of Wmax's comments here.

Lastly, 3/4", 1" or 2"?

I never could pry straight answers out of WmAX only replies that everything I tried was wrong.

I tried a couple of foam rubber products before settling on 2" Roxul 60 on the advice of another helpful member. Chris didn't tell me that I'd screwed everything up again so I'm guessing I did good. Anyway they sounded pretty good. By the time I added the 2" per side and 4" on the back wall I had to form a box for the crossover out of the rockboard and carve out room for the woofer and the ports - it was that full of stuffing. Roxul is a lot easier and more pleasant to work with than fiberglass board and one sheet will do about three, maybe four B2030Ps. Unless you love working with fiberglass I'd stay with Roxul.

You can really hear the difference but I've since moved on and have them in my storage shed.

I guess the OC705 would work, but man it's pricey. Heck, if you really want to go the OC route, go the 703 (cheaper) and use glue and or spray adhesive.

I used these in my basement as acoustic treatment for a listening area that was a train wreck, dont let the price fool you, they were great!!! not the best lookers of course, but it was for a basement. and for you, it will be inside the speaker and not seen at all


I'm not knocking the OC, I am actually considering using them (the 703) for aDIY acoustic panels project I had in mind, so please dont think I am biased, but for the application you list I think there are better options.


oh, and regarding size, I think 3/4 is more than enough. more than that will probably be overkill

that Roxul looks like a pretty good option, as it looks like the stuff you find in some vintage speakers I have pulled apart in the past. still leary on the 2" though, but at that price who cares?

I was actually advised to use 2" per side and 4" on the back wall. That was after getting my hand slapped for not using enough.

+1 on the spray adhesive. You can get 3M 77 spray glue at the local hardware store. $10 worth will do 3 speakers. Oh and get some cheap latex exam gloves from the paint department.

Excellent info, thanks much. I'm going to order the 2" Roxul 60, 1 piece. Only have two speakers to do, looking forward to it. I'll check with Lowes and see if they have any of the 77 adhesive, we use that at work, great stuff.

While I'm thinking about it, I plan on ordering MoPads for these, they're transferring a ton of energy to the desk they're sitting on. Any objections/slaps for foolishness?

Might have to try that advice sometime in the future.

the latex gloves, very good advice I wish i had when I used spray adhesive and insulation in the past..lol

++ all of that. Figure out all your steps and have all the work prepped and ready to go before bring the adhesive out. It can be a mess if you don't.

I remember looking at those before, undoubtedly a prior suggestion from you. I like the price but I must compromise my frugality for WAF and purchase the MoPads.

If you have a drywall type t-square (Harbor Freight) and a combination square they help alot with the cuts

Good suggestion, one I'll pass along. Will probably order MoPads, found them for $22.77 if the suggestion here pans out. At that price I feel very good about the purchase, at $40 not so much.
