EPA to Crack Down on Farm Dust

What's next? Limits on bullsh!t? Oh, that's right. That would put the EPA out of business.

'OKLAHOMA CITY -- The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency is considering a crackdown on farm dust, so senators have signed a letter addressing their concerns on the possible regulations.

The letter dated July 23 to the EPA states, "If approved, would establish the most stringent and unparalleled regulation of dust in our nation's history." It further states, "We respect efforts for a clean and healthy environment, but not at the expense of common sense. These identified levels will be extremely burdensome for farmers and livestock producers to attain. Whether its livestock kicking up dust, soybeans being combined on a dry day in the fall, or driving a car down the gravel road, dust is a naturally occurring event.

"time you work ground, you're going to have dust. I don't know how they'll regulate it,berts said. "The regulations are going to put us down and keep us from doing things we need to be doing because of the EPA."'

For once, I gotta give the senators credit here. The EPA has never used common sense in any of their rulings.

It does get pretty thick when they are tilling the farms around our area, but a lot of them do it at night when less people are out and it is cooler. I am on the side of the farmers though because how else are we supposed to get our food?!

It is the large burn days that actually bother me though - You can't see, can't breathe and it really sucks.

Does anyone have any real data on the danger the dust proposes, the alternatives that would lower it, the change in safety of those alternatives and the costs involved?

Its seems entirely impossible for anyone to have a useful opinion on this when none of the variables have been quantified.

Well, now that you mention it...

"Farmers in Oklahoma are being targeted with new dust regulations. Normal farming methods include tilling the ground, which produces dust. What type of farming method doesn’t produce dust? No till. What company endorses no till farming methods for crop production? Monsanto. Don’t till to get rid of weeds, just apply Roundup.

So, it looks like our friends in the Monsanto-controlled government corporation are up to their eyeballs in promoting GMOs again. This time by making it so costly and difficult to grow normal crops, that farmers are shoved right into the waiting maws of Monsanto again. And the march to control the world’s food supply marches on."

Roundup? Do you spray Roundup where you grow vegetables? More wondeful decisions brought to you courtsey of the federal EPA.

So, if you wonder why your food starts tasting a little funny, click here

As an outsider lookin in..Ok.. as a Canadian..this is really REALLY DUMB. I can't believe that they would seriously consider this. I'm going to rig some really big fans at the border and plough some fields just to p?ss them off. :p

How else can a government entity grow larger, and acquire more taxpayer funding?
They first create a problem, then come charging in to the rescue.

So the EPA wants to force already strapped farmers not to till so the dust is gone? Interesting. What about here in the desert? We have small dust storms frequently. Let me see if I can get God's address so the EPA can issue a cease and desist order.

Let's see, use chemicals from OIL to saturate the ground to kill the organic leftovers of reaping plants we eat that decay to fertilize the ground for the next planting and/or use billions of gallons of fresh water to spray over millions of acres depleting the water tables as the soil lies fallow to reenergize itself for the next planting cycle all while we are starving for clean drinking water and reservoirs are running dry. That about right?

Don't ya just love the bureaucrats who have probably never even SEEN a working farm, much less understand how they work.

The hyperbole is a bit thick. Unless someone has more specifics than I have seen mentioned "it's just a little dust" is no different than "it's the next dustbowl"... and for those who are completely ignorant of history, that had a lot of suck-age.

So I don't know if there's a real issue or not.

Then there's the issue of motivation. Do we know that the whomever passed / wrote this was trying to grow the EPA?

In fact, we see two different assertions of cause "It's the people that make roundup manipulating the EPA" and "It's someone in the EPA growing their agency". Either is possible, or perhaps neither is true.

So do we have anything more than speculation?
