I'm almost embarrased to ask this question.....but I will anyway.
I own a Sony TA 4650...It has pre outs and i am trying to connect it to an M&K V90 sub. Okay...everybody says to hook up Y connectors to the pre ins and main outs or to my wifes I pod or the dogs training collar etc.
When someone says Y cable, there are Male Male female Y cables...Female female Y cables etc. I need to know what kind of Y cable(s) to use and where each end of the Y goes specifically. What is the best way to do this and not screw things up sound wise??? Do I sound frustrated??? Sorry. Anger management was cancelled today because the instructor threw a Hostess pie at some guy who cut in front of him....at the store. He is doing "quiet time"
at a publicly owned facility. Thanks in advance...Rick...I hope it wasn't a berry pie. That would be really difficult to wash out??

well if the "preoout" is actually for a subwoofer then you need one end of the "y" cable to be "male" in order to plug into that output.

The we can assume the input of the subwoofer is also female so you need the output of the other end of the cable to be male.

The question is does either the receiver or the subwoofer have separate left and right input/output?

If neither do, then you need a standard subwoofer cable, and not a "y' cable...if both do...then you peed a pair of RCA cables and not a "y"cable.

The only reason for a "y" cable is if you need ot match 2 outputs into a single input...or vice versa.

If you don't have the manual for your sub, you can find it here.

If you are using left and right preamp outs, simply run a pair of RCA cables. I'm guessing there isn't a separate subwoofer out but if there is, you can run a single RCA cable to one of the input jacks on the sub, usually the left one.

You'll probably also need to experiment with the crossover dial on the sub to achieve the best blending. With your setup, all frequencies are being sent to the speakers but the sub will be adding to the lower frequencies. That may take some trial and error to make it sound good.
