Hi all

I guess I'm a born again newbie, I'm building an AV system from scratch and would love some thoughts on a couple of issues.

I'm looking at Blu-Ray players and AV Recievers first and want to go same brand; which I think leaves me with Sony, Pioneer, Yamaha or Denon? The last 2 brands have great Amps but 'iffy' Blu-Ray players (I should say that I want to do both for less than a grand).

There are also some bargains to be had at the expense of 3D pass-thru (not an issue) and some internet services (how much use are these?).

Am I wrong in trying to stay same brand if I turn down the likes of the Denon 2310 in the name of style, and am I missing out on any new tech if I plump for a bargain Sony 760 Blu Ray?

Priorities for me are sound and vision (funnily enough!), can any of you help me spend my money wisely?

Don't brand match, you only hurt yourself in quality and price. If anything just color match... no one really looks at the brand mark as much as they notice the White device in a all Black system.

I'd go with a Denon receiver and a Oppo BD player or a PS3 if you play games/have kids.

Thanks Nugu.

I forgot to add I'm in the UK so when I say a grand I mean £1000, at the moment I can pick up a Sony 760 and a Denon 2310 together for about £700.

I'd dodge the Sony player, or just buy a PS3.

I wish I had a reason to replace my Onkyo, that's a lot of receiver for 430$.

Yeah, for $430, that Denon 2808 (original price $1,200) won't be in stock for long.:D

I noticed in the past few days that both the Denon 3808 & Denon 4308 have been purchased and are now out of stock.
