:: ELITE calibration/Bass setback::

Seriously, I have no life.
TLS,

I checked settings on my ELITE, and the crossover range goes up to 200,
(here is a screenshot what the menu looks like, ignore speaker size, this screen was taken from manual, I have it set as small speakers)

Should I max the crossover to 200? or just 150?
To sum it up, when calibrating set the woofer knobs to half-way for volume, 150hz for low-pass filter. When auto calibration is done, I need to go back to speaker setup and max the crossover to the highest setting (as you advise 150hz, or 200hz.

Thank you!!
I would try setting the receiver crossover to 150 Hz and 180 Hz and see which sounds best. Make sure the woofer in the sub is unobstructed to the listening position.

Make sure the sub crossover is set as high as possible.

It seems I have resolved the issue about crossover and bass response. This is my first AVR with surround setup, but my amp has a volume range from -80dB to +12dB. I noticed that regular volume in my bedroom (stereo signal with low volume of subwoofer) that I keep it around -25dB, I dont hear any sound from -80dB volume to around -52dB. It seems to me that low range of dB is wasted, is this normal? I have each channel set for 0.0db (that is default). Is it because each channel has 0.0db and not in positive numbers? I have 8 ohms set correctly, and crossover. If I add more channels to this stereo volume, will it make it louder by accumulating all sounds?
My amp has 110Watts/channel, and speakers range is:
Efficiency 88db
Recommended amp power 20-100watts
Can I just bump up the dB number for each channel and better use the low volumes. Again I dont hear any sound from -80dB to around -25db (depends for the source)
Thank you,
Rob

That is because the sound is going below your hearing threshold. The number settings of your volume control are totally irrelevant.

All you need to do is set the volume the the level you deem appropriate, that is all.

So it is safe to say this is normal with this sort of setup?
Thank you again, my relentless curiosity gets the better of me

It's a combination of how soft you can hear coupled with the ambient noise level in the room you're in. That does seem like a lot of range to lose but nothing to really be worried about. As long as you can get the adjustments where you want them in terms of steps of volume, softest you want, and loudest you want - and not clip the amp - you'll be fine. Just ignore the numbers on the volume control for the most part. They're just relative, not actual.

Thank you for the feedback and advise. It seemed odd that going from mute to about -52dB is a waste and almost no sound, but I guess If I enable eq, utilize all 5.1 speakers (not stereo), and tweak how loud each channel is then I will be able to hear that range in super quiet environment. I ran a test by turning off sub, rear speakers, and center, just working with front left and front right, and was able to max the volume which is +12dB, and to be honest it was loud, but not what I expect it. I guess the bulk of making the sound very loud is to add Subwoofer and use other speakers...

I havent read all the posts, but may I ask a question...
Have you put your speakers to small and let the sub handle everything up to 150hz???
I think the energy speakers is good small speakers, but maybe the sub is just too humble sort of speak. Just a little thought....
