I think the Hurt Locker blu-ray has great DTS-HD MA sound, and the PQ is pretty good. The SQ is definitely better than both Transformers movies combined.

I thought the story was pretty good, but NOT BEST PICTURE or BEST DIRECTOR good!

I did care about the 3 main characters of the Bravo unit, so that's a good sign.

I would watch this movie again just for the awesome Sound Quality.:D

It makes the gun fire in Transformers sound like fire crackers.

This movie did not deserve to win best director or best film. Plot was weak at best. What was so amazing about the directing? The suspense build ups? With bombs about to go off, the director doesn't have to do anything to build up suspense. I think it was a joke that this film won so many awards. Inglorious was far and away a better film. The only reason this won is because it was about the Iraq war.
You are absolutely correct. Only reason I didn't say it first was because I was concerned about some lurkers being like the people at my job...

Where I work you'd be called un-American or far worse for saying that... but man I agree with you completely.

And I bet everyone at your work place hated AVATAR.:D

I think "Up In The Air" should have gotten Best Picture/Best Director.

The story really hit everyone big time in this economy.

I think it's winning the award has to do with more hollywood "politics" than anything else. I didn't care for it as a lot of the tactical side of things were far fetched and just wouldn't have happened in the real world.

Avatar was "proof of Hollywood's atheist-socialist agenda!!!" *sigh* :(

Up In The Air was far better. It really really really hit home... I was told I'm that guy... that's a whole other issue though.

Agreed. But... don't wanna start a flame fest but I could probably package a cinematic pile of crap in BDUs, cover it with an American flag, and win my own awards for it. Not saying the movie was crap, far from it, but it certainly was bolstered by the concept rather than the actual content.

Black Hawk Down, for the most part, it about the best portrayal of current military culture I've seen. Band of Brothers and Saving Private Ryan are two other films that I would consider standard bearers of what military films should be like. This wasn't anywhere near as good as those.

I heard Generation Kill is good as well but I haven't had a chance to watch it yet, even though I've had it on Blu-ray for about two months now.

Agreed. I don't see what all the fuss was about with this film.

The story is rather problematic, but dang does the SQ make up for it! Man those were some of the freakin' best gun shots I've heard in a film. They had me running for cover.:D

I just rented this movie, and I thought it was garbage, if someone in the army watched it, all they'd do is complain about how everyone keeps going over the commanding officer's head and blatantly ignore and disregard his orders. Also, the fact that they only had one vehicle cover for a disarm situation, etc... etc... I noticed too many of those mistakes, a mili. dude would have a field day. Any one else notice they seemed to do EVERYTHING? even though they had a specific task, they did missions other squads would have been dealing with. Why did they seem to be the only people in the desert? There were a few people noticed at the base, but where'd they go?

Either way, it did have its moments, any time they were dis-arming something it was very stressful feeling, but not very "suspensful" since i had a feeling the gung-ho jerk guy would survive the whole movie. Also, no character development whatsoever; at the end of the movie that guy was still a self-centered jerk. He never learned the bonds of brotherhood or whatever, etc... never happened. A lot of it was predictable as well. Of course the truck driver who was car-jacked was going to escape right after he said "don't go anywhere" That and too many other predictable things.

In all, I just really didn't like it, and I felt that little text at the bottom that kept showing up, saying how long they had left, was a reminder to me of how much longer I had to endure this film- what was the writing even going for? A fictional documentary? The camera was shaky enough to seem so.

Isn't it amazing how a "girl" can make a movie with this kind of awesome sound quality, but Michael Bay has no clue?

As has already been discussed in the thread earlier, it is a movie not a documentary. Complete fiction, so if it isn't accurate to how things actually, are, that is probably intentional.

IT just seemed so wrong that it be placed in current/ not long ago conflict. I say "Fictional documentary" mostly because of the filming style, though there were no "interviews" I was expected to know what was going on, if not forced to know, and the camera was too shaky and at times made me feel dizzy. IT should be accurate if it's going to be a recent event. That's just the way I feel. If they wanted to make a "Heroes of the desert" sort of movie where a small group of people do everyone's job to save people, then they should have made up a conflict and based it off that. At least that way it wouldn't be a "war" movie per-say, more than a fictional action movie. If that was the case, I would accept it.

I doubt she did the audio mix though.
But she knew to get the right people to do it for her. That's what a good director does, unlike George Lucas & Michael Bay and a lot of directors.:D

Good delegation is the key.

Or maybe she just got lucky.:D

You don't have to hate her, but it sounds like this isn't one of her better movies, so it is ironic that it won for best picture :) (not that those two were Oscar material ;) )

I don't disagree with any of your assessment of the movie. I don't know what the intent of the film was, but while it was amusing for a few hours, it isn't the kind of film that sticks with you.
