Man freed after serving 3 years in jail for rape he did not commit. A woman made the whole story up and then followed it through all the way to trial and conviction for this poor guy.

She finally admitted it was a lie. But that man's life has been ruined. Not to mention the horrible things that probably happened to him in prison. What does she get? 1-3 years for perjury. She should at least serve the same 3 years that he did. I don't know how she was able to live with herself.

Well since he did the time maybe she should actually have to be ra... Um never mind. Just kidding, but she is scum for sure. It's a tough call, how about life in prison with no parole? That is how I would feel If I were him.

He must have had a real whiz-bang lawyer if he was convicted of rape with no DNA and a bite mark that was inconclusive.

they should make an example out of her, let people know what happens when you make up a story that ruins someones life.. I agree she should get at least what he got.. or she shoudl have to repay him financial reparations for the rest of her life.

Kinda like the movie Double Jeopardy... he can't be tried/convicted of the same crime twice... but she should have to serve the sentence he was given, and not be eligible for parole or be let out early for good behavior.

I had heard about this a while ago, when it happened.
She became a legal resident after the fact, because she married an American citizen.
The woman, Biurny Peguero, is looking at perjury charges and deportation back to the Dominican Republic

"A specific group that specializes in exoneration projects got involved --there are several across the country. They used DNA evidence and dental records. The group here is called Exoneration Initiative. They're nonprofit. They focus on wrongful convictions in cases that lack DNA evidence.
In the fight with the girlfriend, the girlfriend bit this woman. For whatever reason, the police didn't check the bite marks. She later claimed McCaffrey had bit her during the rape. For some reason, McCaffrey's attorney didn't check these bite marks, either. Or if anyone checked the bite marks, they didn't do it properly.
Tested properly by this exoneration project, it was clear the bite marks came from a woman, not a man."

I always find it incredulous when the police are so quick to judge any case with nary a hint of evidence. Any case involving a man and women and 99% of the time they will take the womens side. Take male teachers accused of raping a female student they get 15 years, yet a female teacher raping a male student and they get probation.

I don't know how it is down there but up here, people that are wrongly imprisoned usually get multi-million dollar settlements upon their release. I don't think that's necessarily wrong. It is the prosecutor's office that is supposed to ensure justice is done. Prosecuting this case to conviction without evidence, rape kit or DNA puts the state at some fault.

Hey, it is a woman's world anymore. My Dad use to say sooner or later that would happen. After reading this post, it looks like my Dad was right. It is a shame things like this happens, but obviously it does.

Something very wrong in the court system when this is possible, why are these things happening.

Over here there was a guy who served 35 years for a murder he didn't commit, he died a year after being freed of all charges

When un-justice like this is being done, I don't even think there's any way of making it right, nothing can undo what has been done, so this must be taken extremely seriously. Many many years imprisonment sounds fair.....

i think both the lady and the courts should be heavily, heavily sued and fined, that guy should be allowed to live the rest of his life in a multi million dollar mansion with every luxury he can imagine. yep, that will make up for it.
