I would try the digitl coax cable but i dont have one at the moment... the coax is for audio correct?
That's correct, I just pulled the manual for that player and if you connect a coax from that output to your receiver it will handle 5.1 dolby digital. I recommend monoprice.com if you need to purchase one, they're dirt cheap and work just as well as any.

Once you get it working let us know what you think of DD!

Yep, it's for audio. You can just use one of your RCA cables for it - that will work just great.
*pauses my movie that I am watching*

ok i disconnected the rca inputs on both ends and used the white rca to plug into the coax on the dvd with the other end into the oarange coax on the recevier... but the receiver is still set on prologic? do i keep it on prologic?

Turn off your player first (to reset the audio), then plug it in just like you said, turn your player on, and see if your receiver automatically switches. You'll know it's DD if your receiver shows Dolby Digital on the front.

Bummer. Based on the manual, it looks like the default settings for the audio output is PCM for Dolby Digital (which will give you Pro-Logic) and no output for DTS. Uggg.

Which universal remote control do you have? Is there no way to access the set-up menu on the DVD player?

Oh, wait. You can watch DVDs on your PS3, correct?

If you don't have any sound at all with that arraignment then you probably need to find the remote for the unit to change the audio settings. If you can't find the original remote then you might want to invest in a universal...a universal would typically automatically have all the important commands available, meaning you could go into the menu and set it up properly.

Even if you can borrow a universal from someone and program it for your dvd player, change the setting, then return it to them...that would work.

I looked through the manual for some way to reset the unit but didn't find anything...you could try unplugging the dvd player from the wall for a few minutes, then plugging it back in with the coax hooked up and see if you get anything.

Try hitting various buttons on the yamaha's remote to see if you get any sort of menu to pop up on your tv from the dvd player...:D

I'm out for the evening for a bit, hopefully the ps3 comes soon, I know you'll enjoy it!

Hmmm. After you press whichever button you press on the Yamaha remote to control the DVD player ("DVD/LD," perhaps), press the "SET MENU" button on the bottom right of the remote when the DVD player is on. Does the DVD player menu show up?

Hey, try this. Per the owner's manual, it should work.

Press the "DVD MENU" button on the remote control, then press the "SET MENU" button. Anything?
