Help decide between Onkyo, Pioneer others

Hi I am a newbie to this forum and looking for advice on an AV receiver 7.1.

Need a minimum of 3 HDMI inputs, plus getting the latest decoding would be good since you dont do this too often (for me it is once every 10 years).

The room is 15 x 15 with a sliding door and pass through to another room. Speakers are Cambridge MC 300 for fronts, Center Channel Plus, and Surround 5.1 for surrounds. SVS subwoofer
Samsung LCD TV, Samsung Blueray player

I am considering the following receivers and would appreciate advice. I want to keep the cost under $ 800:

1. Onkyo 607 Runs hot?
2. Denon 1910
3. Onkyo 806
4. Pioneer 1019
5. Pioneer Elite VSX 23TX (On screen GUI)
6. Pioneer Elite VSX 21 TX (no on screen GUI)
7. Pioneer Elite 03TX Elite

Any others to consider? Thanks for all you recommendations.

I don't think you need an $800 dollar receiver for that setup, but you could take a look at the new xx04 Marantz receivers. An alternative is a Denon 2310 from 6th Avenue for $549. I also like the 806, but its video isn't so great, but you may not need it.

I may not need a$ 800 receiver, but I would rather slightly overbuy than kick myself 2 years from now. I would rather spend only $ 500 but am willing to go upto $ 800 for the lust features.

If you really want to spend that kind of cash I recommend the Onkyo HT-RC180. Right now you can buy it from Newegg for $780 shipped to your door, this receiver is just like the 807 minus some minor options. Best thing about this receiver though is that you can plug it into your home network.

I was going to get this receiver myself but found the 1007 for $1000 shipped, I could not pass that up.

I managed to get an Onkyo TX-SR806 for $550 before shipping - I was originally planning on on spending $400-450 and accepting 5.1, but ran across the 806 deal and couldn't pass it up.

A local custom shop had quoted me $700 ( on close out ) for a base end Integra that was the equivalent to the 806, but when I ran across the 806 deal, I figured that it was worth the extra $150.

Tiger Direct - overstock sale.

They are out of the overstock supplies at this point - they lasted maybe a week if that, but as of 5 minutes ago, they other 806's for $599.00

Thank you Greg. Since you have this unit, do you know if it runs hot? Also how is the music quality.

It seems like this unit may be better than the 807 since it has the THX ULtra2 vs THX Select2 a and certainly the even if it didnt.

I just barely received mine, and have yet to hook it up ( waiting for my LCD TV to be installed ).

I talked to an Integra dealer, and according to him it's the nature of the beast, it's due to the amp and how much airflow they have around them.

A unit sitting on an open shelf will run cooler than a unit that is shut in an enclosed cabinet - what I'm planning to do, is to cut slots in the bottom of the shelf that the 806 sits on and install a small fan on top of mine to assist with air flow through the unit - I'm doing this even though my receiver is sitting on a semi open shelf, I figure that $30 is a small price to pay to ensure that the temps stay under control.

I purchased a aux fan for my PS3 as well, just to make sure that it stays cooler than it would other wise.

I'm probably going to install a USB powered fan in the cabinet it's self so that anytime the TV is turned on I get additional airflow through the cabinet.

If you want, I have spent a fair amount of time, looking at different types of fans and can pass on to you, many of the links I have.
