No doubt.
Yesterday I got a built in double oven installed. The old one quit working. The appliance repair guys said the part to fix it was no longer available. When I removed the old oven I saw that a poor electrical connection was the real problem. The appliance repair people evidently don't check that as part of their diagnostic trouble shooting procedures because they don't pull the oven out ... because ... I forgot why not but they don't.
The connection was not made in a junction box and had been arcing like a bastard because the original installers didn't have a big enough wire nut so they only used 1/2 the strands in the cable. The arcing left a nice patch of black soot in the presswood cabinet.
The appliance repair guy was unapologetic and actually defensive of the misdiagnosis. When I suggested that his people check the electrical connections in the future to maybe prevent fires he said something like, "Lots of homes get lost to fires. I lost a home to a fire."
I'm glad we didn't die in a fire.
Rickster71 gave me the scoop on how to make it right. I'm gonna give him a shitload of rep points. AH rocks.
