Okay...let's go back to class.

Who's for the new Pledge of Allegiance in school? One for Allegiance to the Earth? Any takers?
I can't take any pledge of allegiance to anyone but God. I'll vote and be the best citizen I can be, but my allegiances aren't to the earth or any country for that matter.

I'm thankful the US is a country of free speech where I can have the right to my faith.

Outside of when they were in school does anybody on this board still say the Pledge of Allegiance daily?

I know Congress says it to start each session, but other than school kids that's about it. I don't even believe military members say it (please correct me if I'm wrong here).

I've never understood the uproar people get into over over this topic, and I'm still not quite sure why its a requirement of school children. A pledge is just a series of words that are strung together- what's more important as a person is what you do everyday.

By the time I got to high school, I cannot remember anybody who actually took the pledge seriously. It just became something you did, and it had lost most of its meaning. After 9/11, I remember going to Temple for Shabbat and saying it there... that saying had more meaning than any other time previously.

I think the problem with something like a pledge is that it gives adults a false reason to think that their kids are going to grow up and be model citizens because they say 35 words every morning. I'd rather have my children be required to DO something to make their country/world around them better, rather than passively state a pledge. If you don't do anything, then it's just a bunch of empty words.

Blah, blah, blah. More right wing wacko crybabies all pissed off that they lost control of the country.
No just people who love this country and don't want to see it ground into the dirt like the liberals want. Liberals hate a free America, they want an America that they can control and nothing else will do. And that is why in the end they will fail miserably. They are failing already. So keep attacking people who believe in the constitution and in less government it helps get the point across that the left won't be happy until the real America is dead and buried. And that won't happen on our watch......

Nice one dude, ya got me. Yep, I can't stand the thought of a free America. In fact, I tried to steal the Constitution so I could set it on fire, but dammit, they keep it locked up.

Darien,
God bless you. I know you're trying to be sarcastic, but in all honesty liberalism is the exact opposite from how this country was set up. Remember ..."by the people for the people". Liberals think governement is the answer to all our problems, which means more control and opression on the people. Its all about control. But alot of people don't understand that by letting the government take control, they are giving up their freedoms. One day, we will not have any left. This is why those on the right oppose these policies. These policies all violate the constitution. Also, try reading about some of the things the founding fathers said about freedom. It comes with a price. It's not the governments job to take care of you. Societies are much better off when the government stays out of their lives It's actually too big a topic to really put in this post. But anyway, this is basically a battle between capitalism and Socialsm. These are 2 conflicting ideas and this is why the right and left will never see eye to eye.

I'm so happy to see that the liberals who like to tell everyone else what to do can see how much of a PITA they were when they lost the two previous elections. Oh, wait. I forgot, they tried to take the world to court over it. My mistake. How they can be so hypocritical by saying ACORN hasn't been involved in election fraud and complain that the '00 and '04 elections were rigged amazes me.

If you want a specific case, google Victor Knox (in MKE) and look for info on his trial. I was on the jury for that one, so don't try to tell me ACORN wasn't involved.

I'm not about government stepping in and taking my rights away either. But you can't deny that there aren't instances when totally free capitalism, with no sort of limits, leads to greed and oppression. There needs to be a balance between freedom and doing what's right for society.

Let's talk about healthcare. It cracks me up when people scream and shout about being denied treatment under a government sponsored medical plan. They think this doesn't happen every day under the current system? Try to get medical coverage for any sort of "non-traditional" type of treatment. My mother has developed dermamyositis over the last few years, and her doctor's have basically done nothing for her. I know people that have gone to alternative medicine clinics and gotten relief. But they have to pay for this treatment out of their pocket. All doctor's want to do is put you on drugs for the rest of your life. I wonder why they do this? Could it have anything to do with the kickbacks they get from the multi-billion dollar a year pharmaceutical industry?

People scream about being forced to pay for illegal immigrant healthcare under a government sponsored system. You think you aren't paying for immigrant treatment now?

Personally I think the current health system sucks and needs massive overhaul. Do we need to change to a completely government run healthcare system? Probably not. But we DO need change.

Yeah, we are and that's why we need to put a stop to them coming here and using our system and resources.

Again, I have no problem with people coming here, as long as they pull their weight and play be the rules of the country.

I totally agree with you here Darien, the current health care system is broken and is in need of some major tort reform but Obama is pushing too hard for a plan that nobody really understands and will yet expand the fed government further into our lives. There are alternatives that need to be looked at, this is not something that should be rushed.

Where's the problem? Positive role model for (black) kids... Doesn't sound much like "Hitlerian youth" to me...
You nailed it, a white president from any party would not be treated this way.
