Mike,

That really sucks. Hope your wife is not in too much discomfort and that her recovery is a speedy one.

I hope everything turns out for the best Mike. Make sure you get the Mrs home all better and administer healthy doses of serious bass. I heard it's good for fighting dengue. :D

Seriously, I have no life.
My sympathies to you and your wife, to have to go through this ordeal. Hopefully she will come though this ordeal on schedule. The chances for a good recovery are high, 99%, so though it is distressing now better days will almost certainly come.

Probably our US readers do not know what Dengue and hemorrhagic fever are, so hence the link to the CDC.

World wide it is a huge problem. It is getting worse in the Americas, and southern states not immune, but most US cases are in travelers returning home.

I never saw a case.

Holy crap!!!! That sounds serious. Just reading the symtoms, "severe pain that gives it the nick-name break-bone fever or bonecrusher disease."

Man, I hope she gets better soon and I sure hope they have some kick butt drugs for this.

We'll be thinking of her!!! ;)

thanks everyone!

unfortunately, there's no cure for this. one can only make sure that the patient does not dehydrate (IV) and being sure to be ready with a blood transfusion once bleeding or platelet counts become too low.

a normal person's platelet count should be around 150-400 whatever units.
she had 158 last thursday
102 last friday AM
60 friday night
40 saturday AM

20 is the cutoff for transfusion.

good news is i think the fever is breaking.
