I love golf... I do, but I just don't have the personality for it. The last course I played was the Black Diamond quarry course (an absolutely amazing place to play) I hit a tour quality 325 yard shot cutting the dog leg across the one quarry hole and ended up on the green, just off the fringe. I was so damn excited thinking birdie.. maybe even eagle. What do I do? I end up 5 putting.

I have never once been able to put a complete hole together. Great drive, tank the fairway shot, then eventually sink a ridiculously hard putt once I finally got there. Or, I'll drive into the next county, and then have a perfect 3 iron out of the rough to the green.. then 5 putt.

It blows. I love the game, especially when I play nice courses where you have nice scenery. It's getting pretty damn hot down here now, but I'll probably get out again soon and stink up the place.

I'll step up... I played in college and played very shortly as a pro. I then worked for the Cleveland Golf tour department. I just play for fun now but have about 5-6 six clients at any given time that I coach. Golf has been a huge part of my life and I love it. I was really lucky that my dad got me started very young and I learned to compete with and beat guys at an early age. It might be the only one hobby that demands more of my attention than audio.

EDIT.. Taylor Made makes some sexy putters.........

Seriously, I have no life.
Here's a bad golf story- I had an 85 with 46 putts. At the time, I couldn't make a short putt to save my life. In the same round, there's a par 3 with a really wide green, sloped pretty drastically downhill from back to front and maybe 35 feet deep. My tee shot was at the far right side with the pin at the far left. I lined it up and figured that it would break about 10 feet, from about 50 feet. Couldn't make a three footer but I nailed the long one with the 10 foot break.

Wow, I would not have expected a good (let alone very good) player to be amongst the nerdlingers who hang out here;). I also played in HS and College along with some other sports and worked at a CC all of my young life. Golf has been a long time friend though I don’t play much anymore. Just some business golf or if an old friend talks me into it.

Stories ... yeah, I've got a few:p. Played St. Andrews Old Course (and several other BO courses) when I was 18. You could just walk on then and I shot 79. The old Scottish caddy was very cool:cool:. I once had a 5 year hiatus from the game and shot 73 on my first round back. As a kid, I had the ugliest 72 ever (43-29). The 29 was the back nine CR at my old stomping grounds for a while. One of those don’t think just swing kind of days. In fact, that is the key to the game for me although the muscle memory has faded.

I'm pretty much a die hard golf junky. I've already logged 31.5 rounds in 2009 which isn't too bad considering I live in cold climate were I was only able to play once through February.

If I was able to re-do my HS years, I would take up the game sooner and have played growing up. I never picked up a club until after I out of school and married. When there isn't snow on the ground, I need to get out 4 times a week to scratch that golf itch. I get out twice during the week and every weekend:)

I play to about a 3HC and when I'm playing my best, I hover around par over 18 holes. My claim to fame is that I once had a 15 footer for a 3 under par 69. ...and I three putted it. I just didn't want to leave that first putt short!! LOL....and I ran it 5 feet past.

I started playing in 5th grade. I'm currently a 13.3 handicap, although I'm about ready to completely rip my swing apart. I was watching a video of it this week and honestly, it's a goddamned train wreck. I'm a hitter and a flipper, and it's a wonder I can hit the golf ball. That's probably why I shot 120+ one day and then shot an 83 two days later.

Any way, my name is Chris, and I have a disease.

I chipped one in from 60 yards out in the past year.

(Of course that was following a 60 yard tee shot on a par-3!)

Holy Crap, its only 2pm here and I've already knocked out 36 Holes today... My buddy wants to play later this afternoon.

I'm sitting at 3 under on the day. I closed the first round this morning 4 over on the last 4. Very upsetting. 2 3 putts.

Yeah it was fun... "choke job" was not. It was pretty windy today.

Since this is indeed the golf thread, i'll shed the details that are far to boring for even the boring thread...

The greens were fairly firm and rather quick. Its a shorter course so I chose the Prov1 over the X. Big mistake. The V1x has a much flatter ball flight than the V1 which would have been a big help in the wind. I don't have trouble keeping it down really, but higher flight with elevated spin is no good on a day like today. I also had trouble getting my putts to the line I wanted with the V1 which in my mind, due to more surface area has a firmer feel on the greens and I kept feeling like I was crushing it to only see another one on the low side of the hole. All in all, it was fun. I played with my brother, he's playing in next weeks nationwide event here in Springfield. I'm excited to be caddying for him.

Was that 23 short putts or long ones? C'mon! you need to post details of how you're doing that. Are you laying up for short chips, really accurate with your long approach shots or are you some kind of freak who doesn't miss from anywhere on the green?

C'mon...no excuses!! You got to -3 in those conditions and threw it away in those same conditions.....it is what is is..LOL

:)

Maybe you should have played the Nike MOJO instead? HEH

Really...nice round....I can relate to the ending all too well. As an avid golfer myself, I know all too well how it feels to throw away a good round at the end.

PS.....DID you read my recent golf thread?? I shot my career round just two weeks ago!!! I was bordering on choking my guts out, but somehow finished Birdie, par, Birdie, Birdie to smash my previous best round by 3 shots!!'

A -4......68 BABY!!

Here's an update on my "putting". I no longer need to put that word in quotes because, after going to the course for some practice and missing randomly to one side or the other, I gave up on the cross-handed grip that had originally helped so much. I stood there, closed my eyes, gripped the putter with whatever felt "right" and moved my feet to a comfortable position. When I opened my eyes again, I saw that I had placed the putter just inside of my right heel and my stance was very open (my feet were about 1-1/2' apart and my left toes were about even with my right heel if a line was drawn parallel to the ball's path. My right foot would be square to the path). I started by finding a path to the cup that would have no break (I thought that if I can make straight putts by trusting my aim, I should be able to make the ones that break if I read them properly). I began from about 15' away and started making them consistently after I stopped taking so long, giving myself the chance to second-guess every putt. I have lost my yips, I trust me reads and the number of one putt holes has increased dramatically. I have made the vast majority of my straight putts and the ones I didn't were due to corrent line but wrong distance. I have more birdies and pars than ever before and since I got some help with my grip, my drives are longer and in the fairway much more often. I have putted for eagle 4 times, even on holes approaching 600 yards.

I'm a happy camper. That means, the game of golf has me right where it wants me.

I had two three putts... that makes much more sense... :D

Both on the closing 4 holes of the first round. A total of 62 putts for the two rounds. I hit a lot of greens, just didn't put well.
