Nasty situation at work

Several months ago our manager hired a guy to work in our team of 6 people. I’m one of these people who sizes someone up right from the get go, and I knew there was something not right with this guy. He has several personality traits that rub the rest of us the wrong way, but the nasty part is – he sweats. He’s a big guy, and he breaks a sweat just standing up out of his chair. Several people have remarked that he’s likely to keel over one day because he looks so un-healthy.
To make matters worse, he’s constantly mopping the sweat off his bald head & leaving the paper towels lying around on the tables & chairs. If he’s been working hard and sits down, you can count on the chair being soaked in his butt sweat. He answered the phone the other day, and told me the call was for me. When I put the phone to my ear, it was still wet with sweat.:mad:

We have a guy like that too. Pit stains are bad enough, but this guy soaks his whole shirt, starting with his chest. By mid mornings, he looks like his breasts sprung leaks. By the end of the day, he's like a wet sponge from head to toe.
I would never pick up a phone he just had to his ear. It's just nasty. Tell me, does this guy smell like a gym locker after a tough game?

Craig I don't know about you, but if it were me I would have to say something to the guy. Sounds like he needs a talk about personal hygiene if you ask me. Maybe buy him some Old Spice deodorant/antiperspirant or sound Old Spice Body spray for goodness sakes.:eek::eek: Hopefully, he will take a hint. I would also ask him to pick up after himself-what a slob!:rolleyes: Anyways, good luck in dealing with this guy. It sounds like you are going to need all the luck you can get. :D:p:D

Cheers,

Phil

That's just plain nasty. You should give him a can of Axe body spray.

Every day.

Oddly enough, there isn’t much (if any) BO associated with the guy, just enough water to fill a swimming pool by the end of the day. We have told him on several occasions that he needs to be throwing out his sweat rags, but it still hasn’t taken effect. We took this up with the manager, but her stance is “well, he’s not breaking any rules…”. Since when is working with a certain person who is un-hygienic NOT against the rules?
I think too he knows he isn’t “fitting in”, so he’s become a snippy little ***** to certain people on the team.

There's really only one logical way to handle your situation.

Murder.

Find a way to make him remember, like if he goes to the bathroom drape the sweat rags over his monitor, keyboard, chair, ect. :D

oh, and invest in some rubber gloves to handle those rags.

Buy him a "Shamwow" and be done with it.

Try kicking him in the jewels twice a day until he decides to quit...

Start leaving used tissues on your boss's desk. Since you're not "breaking any rules" there shouldn't be an issue.

Nice.

Or even better, dump your used toilet paper on her desk.

Tough call.

I too perspire very easily and trust me, it's NOT a hygiene issue. It's simply part of my physiology. I bathe daily and use deodorant. That's about all I can do about this.

I do wipe my sweat frequently but I don't leave paper towels all over the place. I dispose of them properly.

Your boss is right. He's not breaking any rules, but she (or someone) should be able to communicate to they guy that it's disgusting at best, and perhaps a sanitation issue at worst and he should not be so cavalier about letting his personal perspiration problem become everyone else's problem.

Perhaps someone should somehow have her schedule a meeting when he's dripping. Let him leave wet towels in her office.

It's kinda like second-hand smoke. I have no problem with smokers until they exhale.

Maybe this is what your co-workers, and you should do.

That's exactly what I was thinking! Given your other posts, Pat, I don't want to think what bodily fluid you had in mind for those tissues. :D

If this big guy started doing some heavy excersizing.... in a while the problem would probably diminish, but he really needs to start thinking about others..... disgusting :(
