This thread has completely ruined my plans for a dedicated HT room. Now I want to do something like this instead as I think it would increase the resale value of my house more than a typical HT room.

What's the chance of you Pm'ing me the build plans for this project?

The only thing I could possibly add is that the design and construction of your space is top notch. I've worked on a lot of things over the years and will say that that is absolutely the coolest space I have ever seen: that's a huge statement.

I'm kind of curious what the AFF (above finished floor) height is under your radius.

The only thing I could possibly add is that the design and construction of your space is top notch. I've worked on a lot of things over the years and will say that that is absolutely the coolest space I have ever seen: that's a huge statement.

I think it's 84 inches. I'll double check when I get home.
The designer is a local fellow who is not affiliated with any company. I saw some of his work and liked it. I could give you a contact number if interested as I know he has travelled to other countries to do work for people.

To be honest with you, I'm not sure what the sq footage of the entire basement is. There is a playroom for my son which is not pictured, as well as a decent sized unfinished area for storage. The basement is pretty big, but the HT area seems relatively small. The sq footage of the house itself is decent, but the basement is smaller because it stops where the garage is. I wish they had built underneath the garage as well, as it is an oversized 3 car garage. I would have liked a bit more room to play with in which case I would have added a gym, but I couldn't extend into the storage area any more than I already have.

Can you describe the walls in the HT section? They look like acoustic panels offset from the walls and lights mounted behind them.

I am taking these pictures and the ones emailed to me to my builder to see what he can come up with.

I'm not getting all weird on you. It's just that this is room of yours really is that spectacular. I've seen some fancy pants architects design their stuff and I've built fancy walls and fancy ceilings but have never seen something work and look quite that well.

BTW, court rooms, lawyers' offices and movie theaters usually have some nice work. For old work that I've seen, the Tennessee Theater in Knoxville is very nice.

Just checked. Floor to ceiling is 90 inches to the very top, 80 inches to the lowered ceiling.

I am taking these pictures and the ones emailed to me to my builder to see what he can come up with.

They are panels made of MDF, for appearance only. I don't see why you couldn't use acoustic panels instead. I don't have any acoustic panels. I thought about it, but the sound is incredible as is, so I don't really think I need any.

The designer did the initial floor plan. My wife and I tweaked it along with him, then worked closely with him to design everything else. He works with a specific contractor who is used to his unusual designs. As you can imagine with all the curves and whatnot, his designs can be a bit tricky to build.

The real trick with all that is dreaming it up and then putting it on paper which I know nothing about. Being able to read the prints well enough to build it is where most people would come unglued. That isn't blueprint reading 101.

The radii are cool but the thing that really does it for me and that you don't see anywhere is the angle on the semi floating ceiling. Pulling that off in a balanced and proportionate design is very clever.

At least he didn't build it himself. That makes me feel less jealous. I wish I could dream stuff like that up though. If this guy ever ends up in New England, he should look me up.
