Phil, my friend bought me this as a gift. Looks like we are watching it tonight. Seeing how my expectations are pretty muted by this thread, I'm hoping to be very pleasantly surprised. :D
Jost, I hope you will find it somewhat entertaining. Personally, I really like Downey so I found it quite funny at times. Anyways, be sure to let us know what you thought about it. Thanks for checking it out if nothing else. ;);)

Cheers,

Phil

I thought it was pretty funny. My friends said there was actually quite a bit in the BD director's cut that wasn't in the theatrical release.

I was pretty taken aback by the all-star cast. I didn't know his name, but I even recognized Reggie Lee. Didn't know Nick Nolte and Jack Black were in the movie. Mr. Cruise was in rare form.

The intro "commercials" were pretty funny. I enjoyed it fine, a good rental for most, if perhaps not a buy. YMMV! hehehe

I saw this in theaters and haven't laughed so hard. Great slapstick. McConaghey (sp?) did a great job, imo. Cruise was funny, but it was a bit weird. I didn't know why it would be rated R, but I found out in the first 'commercial' that opened the movie.

IMO, a hilarious movie. Not for the squeamish. ;)

I'll probably go buy this in an hour when I head up to WM to pick up some groceries. :)

Jost, I am very glad you liked it. Figured you would. ;);) I agree the cast was stacked. I plan to buy this one myself on BR. Thanks for posting your impressions my friend.

Cheers,

Erin, I am also glad you liked it. There were a few cheezy parts in it, but for the most part I thought it was funny. Downey is great imho. Really coming into his own. Thanks for sharing your thought with us. ;);)

I loved the movie. Some funny, some gross, some crass, and some lines that will live in movie infamy (Im the dude, playing the dude, disguised as another dude) :D

I originally watched it in the theater the day it came out. I have never laughed as loud at the movies than I did the first time I watched it. I had problems catching my breath in some scenes. What's strange, is I just watched it on blu-ray last week, and while I still love the movie, it wasn't 1/4 as funny. Maybe because I knew what was comming, or something.

What amazed me the most, was the all-star cast. Nick Nolte, Jack Black, Tom Cruise, Matthew Mcconohay (sp?), Downey, and Toby Maguire, who nobody has mentioned yet.

Probably because McConaughey, Nolte and Cruise had big parts and Toby's was little more than a cameo (if you look it up he's actually listed as uncredited)

Great-very glad you liked it. I think I may give it another look myself. Maybe as soon as tomorrow afternoon. BTW, I did not even know Toby was in this one.:eek: Oh well, I learn something new every single day. Guess, this is my one for today.:eek:

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0942385/fullcredits#cast

guess i didn't see a LOT of people
Mike, I got to look at this movie again this afternoon on BR and noticed Toby was in it! I did NOT catch that when I seen it in the theaters. He was in near the beginning of the movie. Man, does this movie ever look and sound great on BR. Very impressed! I even liked it better this time. ;);) On a side note, at times I thought my dual Pluses were going to rip my room apart-holy crap!!!!!!!!!!:eek: Also, I must say that Tom Cruise really needs to work on his dancing skills as it was almost painful watching again. :p:p

Cheers,

Phil

I didn't find this movie as funny as people made it out to be. Oh well.

I didn't either. However, after giving it a second look on BR I laughed my a$$ off. Have you considered looking at it again? Not sure if you originally seen it in the theater or not. Just curious is all.

I see. Maybe give it another look sometime and perhaps it will be a bit more funny. I mean the first time I saw it was in the theater. Then, I just recently watched it again only this time on BR. For one reason or another, found it to be much funnier. :):)

I'm scared to watch it again and ruin it for myself.

I saw it in the theater and laughed my butt off. I had a hard time walking out of the theater without my butt, though. :(
