Guys, my boss allowed me to take a few pics of one of his subs. This driver not only sounds amazing, but it just looks great!!!!!!! ;);) Talking about "Eye Candy"-just look at the basket. I am utterly impressed. What do you guys think? Better yet, have any of you guys ever heard one of these? I must say, that this sub does NOT sound anything like an 8" driver but much more like a 12" driver imho. Seriously, this sub means business and will knock your socks off!!!!! :D:D

Cheers,

Phil

Alphasonic has been around for years, and I wouldn't exactly call it "high end" :) It is a smaller manufacturer who has sort of been less in the public's eye of late. Mainly car audio, and I've owned amps from them.

Right John. I still think it is a nice sub. We used to be an Alphasonik dealer, but for various reason we dropped them. Just could not seem to get any product from them. Warranty was also a big problem. I am just amazed at what this sub can do. Just having some fun and thought I would post a few pics. I am attempting to take better pics. :p:p How do they look John?

Cheers,

Phil

Just giving you a hard time. I bought one of these about a month ago but have never seen it. It seems to be tucked away at Andrew's house. I hope one day he will show it to me, heck, I would even be happy to see a picture of it:eek:
No doubt Greg. But, for an 8" sub, the Alpha is also nice to look at. ;);) It is a heavy little thing too.

Cheers,

Phil

looks like in buying that thing, you spend most of your dough in all the aesthetics and brand thingies on the driver.

Lmao............I hear you Greg on that one. Maybe one day, you will get your wish. Just trying to learn how to take better pics. As such, seen this sub at the shop and thought why not. After all, practice makes perfect. :D:D

Yeah Mike, no doubt it is highly ornamental. But, it is a beefy little sucker. It really does not sound like an 8" sub. My boss has two of them powered by a Lightning Audio Strike 600.2 amp. Both hit like a hammer. Very tight and punchy sounding. To be honest, I am just trying to learn how to take better pics. Picked this sub for my subject. ;);)

They cast it and then machined it to look nice. Nice trick with the "a" on the side, and I am sure it will shed a lot of heat, but it has to generate a lot of heat for that basket to really be of use. I'm surprised they are still around to be honest.

The highest performance 8" sub in existance of which I am aware is the JL Audio 8W7. It DOES produce the output and distortion profile of a very good 12" normal type subwoofer. It has a linear excursion of 2" peak to peak, with no discernible distortion or compression occurring. That's 20% of it's diameter! It can actually manage about 2.7" or so peak to peak, but it's audibly distorting at this point. It has massive thermal capacity. It's motor and suspension is extremely linear.

This driver can be used in tiny ported systems that have insane output levels. If you need a very high output/high performance sub in very compact sizes, this can fit the bill. A gross volume of about 1.8 - 2 feet should be enough to get a ported box with incredible output, exceeding what very high quality typical 12" systems can produce, and that are far far larger. You could pull it off for about $650 total cost, DIY. Ask me about it.

You can get it for about $250 plus shipping from discount web dealers. Or pay over $400 from an 'authorized' JL dealer.

TC Sounds used to make a comparable driver, but TC is out of business now. :(

John, I am not too sure they are still around. My boss will not sell the remaining ones we have left. So, he put them in one of his cars. Needless to say, it rocks.

This is eye candy!

What a coincidence. I took advtnae of the recent sale on the 15" AXIS drivers. I will be using two of these in my new main speakers, powered by 2000 WRMS each. In a 5ft^3 sealed enclosure, with 2000 watts each, I should be able to get around 110-115dB in room, at about 12Hz. And 130-135 dB in room by 30-35Hz. :) All distortion and compression free, thanks to the insane quality of these TC Sounds engineered/manufactured high performance drivers.
