Hi everybody !

Will this receiver Yamaha RX-V561 accept sound through hdmi ? .

Does anybody have any personal experience with this model in regards to sound passing through hdmi and the receiver and to the speakers ? .

I am getting a PS3 very soon and I want to hook it up with hdmi .

If I don't get sound , then I will return it .

Thanks !!!

Hi, John. I checked the owner's manual for that model, and it will NOT process audio over HDMI. It will only pass the audio out through the HDMI output.

Hey John

Since you'll have to return the receiver, what are you contemplating for a purchase?

Hi Adam ,

Thanks for researching that for me .

I do not have any components with hdmi to test if the manual is correct or not . Will be buying a ps3 soon .

There is not much info on the net about this particular receiver model .

I came across 2 people on the net stating that this model indeed process audio thru hdmi . Confusing .

One poster was actually from this forum.

Hi Rogozhin ,

Thanks for asking .

Actually I just blew all of my funds on all of this home theatre stuff . I bought a paradigm 5.1 speaker package , a new 46 inch panasonic plasma , and this receiver .

I kind of was hoping I would not have to pay any more money to upgrade to a receiver that processes audio thru hdmi . I thought this one did . Well I guess if I want that option , I guess I have to pay more lol !

John, thanks for the update and the info! So, people are saying that the unit does process audio over HDMI? Hmmm. That seems strange, given how specific the manual was on that topic. Would you be able to put up a link to the post on this forum that said that it could process audio? Thanks!

Hi again Adam , that was quick . thanks

Well , I will try to put up the link . I am not too bright with computers .

I actually tried to pm the guy from this forum that stated about the hdmi thing , but for some reason it wont let me pm . Maybe because I am new to this forum .

Can I post a link if I am a new member ? .

Thanks

John, you need five posts to either PM or to put up a link. You're all set now, though - so you can do both.

I click on his name and it says that I do not have permission .

Isn't that the way to pm someone ? .

John, I think that Seth was just mistaken. I doubt that he owns that model. He was probably just looking at some other information on the internet. He may very well join in on this thread. The manual is very specific that the unit does not process audio over HDMI...it does pass it on through the HDMI output, though.

If you click on his name from a post that he made, then a drop-down menu should appear - and one of the choices should be to send him a private message.

Now, if Seth's PM box is full, then you won't be able to send him one. That might be what is happening. Let me see if I can PM him...

Hi again ,

Yes you are probably right . I was just hoping that I would get lucky and not have me spend any more mony to upgrade .

I was reading all about that confusing stuff about ps3 truehd , and that you need hdmi sound in order to get true hd . Man that sucks .

Will I really hear a big difference in sound if I got a receiver that will do all that stuff , or do you think I would be happy with this one ? . I think I would have to pay about 150 more to upgrade . Ouch ! lol

Sorry to say (trust me, I am sorry) that I have no idea if those new codecs sound better or not. I don't have anything in my system that can play them or decode them.

The PS3 doesn't bitstream audio over HDMI anyway. You have to let the PS3 decode the formats and send it out via LPCM. In this case, it wouldn't matter that your audio isn't coming from HDMI or not. You can transmit PS3 video over HDMI and LPCM from the PS3's optical connection for the same result. As long as the PS3 is your source, HDMI bitstream audio is a non-issue and using a separate digital audio connection to the receiver is fine.

Information in this post is false. The RX-V561 does not process audio from an HDMI source. The RX-V661 does support this feature. I must have confused the RX-V563 (the newer RX-V500 series receiver) by accident. The RX-V563 does process 8 channel LPCM, which is perfect for someone like me who has a PS3.:D

Sorry for the information mix up.:(
