Helo everyone,
I am trying to help my brother in Manhattan decide wich speaker ht system is good out there. I have a Kef 3005 wich I think does the job well on my master bedroom. I also have have a more eleboarated B&W system in the family room. The problem is all this was purchase a couple of years ago and I do not know what is out there. He needs a 5.1 system for a small apartment, yet he does not want the Best Buy or CC stuff. He wants something natural sounding. Any ideas?

Thanks

Please provide us with his budget and room size. Does he need the whole system or just the speakers?

Peace,
Tommy

Room size is 14 x 14. He wants just the speakers on a 5.1 configuration. He is a sound engenieer that will be working with pro tools, so he needs something good and natural sounding. I believe his budget is about $1.0 grand or so. He is familiar with studio speakers but not hi-fi. He's goal is to be able to play back his work and get the an idea of the realism.

Thanks

If the goal is to play back his work to get an idea of the realism, 1k for 5.1 isn't going to get it. The 1k would be better spent on the mains, and then add the rest later.

For a smaller budget such as this, MB Quart would be my choice.(Pair)

For a 2k-3k, B&W would be my choice.(Pair)

While I haven't heard Behringer speakers, they look to be the best quality value if the budget is to be 1k for all five speakers, and a sub. Since your brother is into pro-gear, he should be familiar with the brand.

With an HSU sub.

The Behringer/HSU set-up makes me a little sick. That would actually work for $1087.97 total, and there would be a sixth speaker left for 6.1.

This is an excellent budget HT system. IMO the speakers are neutral through the mid-range with slightly forward highs.

Just a random thought or two.

I can understand the goal of some "natural" sounding speakers for well recorded small-scale acoustic music, and even then with many qualifiers.

But, since all movies use foley artists to create the sounds artificially after-the-fact, the term "natural" sounding seems, to me at least, to be somewhat of an oxymoron.

Pleasing, or possibly good-sounding I can see, but I think natural is a bit of a stretch.
