AVR Fine tuning. Is it possible?

I submitted a similar post a few months back, but the responses pretty much left me still wondering. So here I am again. I really want to be able to adjust the bass and treble on my AVR while whatever media I have selected is playing. I would also like to be able to listen to each of my seven speakers seperately whenever I want to so I can listen for any possible ticks that may be coming out of one of them whenever it sounds a little "funny". And there also is the desire to have the old balance selector(left, right, front, back) On my Onkyo TX-SR875, this is impossible to do, and I hate it that way. Alot of music tracks really need some cleaning up or cleaning down while they play. At a flat setting, there are songs that have the bass smashing way too hard, and that's even without the subwoofer, and if you have a 6 disc changer playing through it's shuffle function, the next song may sound a little "tiny" without setting the bass up a few notches. Yes you can go to the sub directly, for more or less bass, but that means getting up and going over to the back of the sub and playing with the dial behind the sub everytime you feel the need for an adjustment, and lets not forget about the "no treble" control. Also, if I want to change the output level to my sub by using the set up menu on the TX-SR875, this all must happen while nothing is playing, and you don't know what you've got until you exit the set up menu and you play something. So again I ask: Are there any good AVRs available(similar quality to my 875) that feature "on the fly" adjustments? This has proven to be a real issue for me. Any sugestions would be very much appreciated.
Thanks everyone! Joe B. :D

That is probably the biggest reason 2 channel listening, by some, go without sub. It's easy to setup HT with a SPL meter to dial everything in (I prefer my ears for the sub setup). Even music with headphones need tweaks to sound better. Your Tannoy Sensys DC 2 will do and excellent job with music without your sub. You can go thru your manual and see what setups don't use the sub. That would be my suggestion.
Sorry to run off at the keyboard.

You can make on the fly adjustments to channel levels, including the sub, by using the 'ch sel' button on the remote and the level+/- buttons. When the receiver is put in standby mode it reverts back to the calibrated levels that were set from the setup menu.

Because Onkyo chose to bury the bass and treble settings in the menus instead of having an 'audio adjust' button like prior year models, you'd probably have to create macros on a universal remote to adjust the bass and treble.

When the response of :"Because Onkyo Chose to bury an audio adjust knob" came across my eyes, I immediately perked up and wondered, does that mean that one of the other top AVR manufacturers out there, has the on the fly audio adjustments? If anyone can tell me which of the newer(last 12 months) AVRs out there, can do this, then not only will I be very thankful, I'll also be putting a barely broken in ONKYO TX-SR875 up for sale. And then I'll be making another AVR purchase very soon!
On another note, I have tried listening to music with my crossover set to 60, and the Tannoy Sensys DC 2's did a phenomanal job. I don't know why I just didn't try it with the sub completely off yet though. (another Bonehead move by me:eek:) I still want and need those on the fly adjustments available to me. Everyone has their thing, and I guess that's mine when it comes to my music listening through my AVR.
Take care all!! Joe B.

Joe, I don't have an 875, but I looked through the owner's manual. Have you tried the "Tone" control on the front panel to adjust the treble and bass for each channel using that button along with the arrow buttons right by it? The manual says that it won't do anything if you are using the Direct or Pure Audio listening modes, but it should work otherwise. It's described on page 82 of the manual.
